FirstEnergy says its light-bulb distribution plan OK'd by state regulators

Published: Tue, October 20, 2009 @ 11:33 a.m.

COLUMBUS — FirstEnergy lashed out this week at efforts to block its planned distribution of energy-efficient light bulbs to customers.

In a filing with the Ohio Public Utilities Commission, the company said it already had invested $10 million in the program, which was approved by state regulators with cooperation from advocacy groups that are now criticizing it.

And FirstEnergy said cost recovery from customers is an essential part of meeting state-mandated energy efficiency benchmarks.

Cost recovery from customers mean profit hidden in cost of bulbs...

The government want us to use less energy. The electric suppliers want to make the same profit. The solution: the government and companies mandate the consumer pay black market prices so both the government and company get what they want at our expense.

I sent an email to PUCO complaining about this situation last week. I received a response from Alan Schriber, who wrote..."Although the PUCO allowed FirstEnergy to implement the light bulb program, it did not approve any charges to appear on monthly bills. Reports in the media placed the cost to customers at sixty cents per month for three years, which equates to $21.60 over the life of the program. The PUCO did not approve these additional dollars nor did it receive a request from FirstEnergy to do so. It is also important to note that the PUCO approved the light bulb program for 2009 only. "

So, First Energy, are you being accurate with us? I'm not so sure. PUCO may have ok'd the distribution of these bulbs, but the charges sound like a surprise to them.

Like I said before, there is no difference between this and racketeering and we would find out that other people and agencies, including governmental, will be involved in this scam. Nothing will happen because the government is involved in the scam and will be classified as " We're helping you." We're helping the environment." "It's for keeping you safe." and all the other excuses they use to steal from you and trample over you. The government is good at pointing the finger at someone when their scam fails or becomes known.

One and all....keep screaming and scream loud.... otherwise, this is something else we are all going to have shoved down our throats. First Energy is upset because all of this was approved, OK'd, whatever.... who the heck ever said, we, the consumers would go for this?? They have a right to recover their losses? If I use less, I pay less, period. Who gave them the right to give me things I don't request and charge me a ridiculous fee? Anyone remember "freedom of choice?"
