UPPER DARBY, Pa. (AP) — Police outside Philadelphia have arrested a man they say attacked an officer with a short sword.
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says 36-year-old George Rogers tried to stab officer Dan Lanni early Sunday morning. Rogers is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, terroristic threats and other charges.
Chitwood says officers were responding to a call from a man who said he had a crossbow and would burn down his house when they found Rogers barricaded in a bedroom.
Chitwood says Rogers tried to stab Lanni with a 13-inch sword, but the officer was protected by a Kevlar shield. Another officer subdued Rogers with a stun gun.
Authorities say crossbows and other weapons were found in the room. Rogers is in jail on $75,000 bail.

And you wonder why you shoot and ask questions later.
This guy should have been shot. Nice restraint on the Police Officers.
Be serious! The man has obvious metal health issues. Is that what you propose to do with all whom are similarly afflicted, shoot them? Get real!
No we should let him stab and kill anybody he wants, because he is nuts. The police have a right to protect themselves, regardless if the attacker is mental.
