TruthPAC complaints to get state hearing

Published: Fri, October 16, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m.

COLUMBUS (AP) — The Ohio Elections Commission has found probable cause that an anti- casino group made false statements about a casino proposal in its advertisements.

The commission on Thursday said it will bring three complaints against TruthPAC to a full hearing.

One statement by a TruthPAC co-chair questioned the union labor record of Penn National Gaming, which supports the ballot proposal that would allow casinos in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Toledo. Another co-chair said cash wagering was mandated by the proposed constitutional amendment for the casinos.

Casino supporters have said cash wagering isn’t used. Opponents have said the wording of the amendment would exempt cash wagering from the casino tax.

Casino supporters also say TruthPAC failed to use a legally required disclaimer.
