YOUNGSTOWN — On Saturday, Jeanette Shipp was surprised with a 70th birthday celebration at Alberini’s restaurant in Niles.

Her daughters, Danita, Deborah, Patricia and Martinia, gathered with family and friends to honor her.

Shipp, who never had a birthday party before, was overwhelmed. Crowned with a tiara of rhinestones, Shipp also received a Certificate of Recognition from Mayor Jay Williams and was presented a Letter of Honor from President Obama.

I have known Jeanette for many years and she is a wonderful person. She has stood with my mother through thick and thin. I love you and appreciate you being my mother's best friend.
