Pishkur would be paid $9,000 weekly as a Forum Health consultant

Published: Mon, October 12, 2009 @ 9:55 a.m.

Forum Health is seeking to pay Walter “Buzz” Pishkur, its former chief executive, $9,000 a week as a consultant.

Forum filed a motion in bankruptcy court last week that asks the matter be included in a previously scheduled Oct. 20 hearing.

Pishkur resigned last month as part of a deal with Forum’s lenders. Forum and the lenders now are working together on a reorganization plan for the health care system.

For more details, see Tuesday’s Vindicator or www.vindy.com.

He didn't do the job when he was there and now you want to pay an exec 9,000 for what? He failed while he was there so what insight can he give for the restructuring of Forum Health? This is ignorance in its best form. Excessive spending and another executive making out. What about the nurses and the people that actually run that institution? How many more nurses could be hired back with that money? STUPIDITY!

It makes sense since he was a part of the failed institution although he was not the cause of it failing. $9,000 is a bit steep but they might not be expecting to keep him much more than a couple of weeks.

Is that really $ 468,000.00 a year ? This guy pulled the greatest scam in the history of Youngstown. 12 months ago he is an "unpaid volunteer Forum board member" Then he scams his fellow Forum Board members.. Retires from Aqua Ohio with a six figure pension, and adds to his windfall by going from an overpaid Forum administrator to a " $450K consultant with NO HEALTH CARE BACKGROUND." You got Buzzed.. from $0 to $450K for a job he was supposedly doing voluntarily. Another Idiot Decision at Forum !

Allow me to humbly correct Search4Answers. Pishkur shares responsibility for Forum's financial failures because he is a long-standing member of the Finance Committee of Forum Health's Board of Directors. What was he doing when that same Board was approving of more and more Debt for Forum? Sleeping? Remember ! Forum's immense Debt is the Main Reason the hospital is struggling for survival, Not the Nurse's contract.

Thanks Search 4. I've got a better suggestion for the Bankruptcy Court. Re-appoint Mr. Pishkur to his VOLUNEEER POSITION ON THE FORUM BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND MAKE HIM CHAIRMAN OF THE FINANCE COMMITTEE AGAIN. Then the new Hospital Administrator can get Mr. Pishkurs expert advice for Nothing!...Free!...like in $0. Then take the $450K you'll save and use it to pay for the Nurses and Doctors who do the Real Work at Forum Health.

Nurses and doctors are not the only ones working at the hospital. And if other departments were not so handcuffed with some of the bad management decisions, the lack of adequate equipment, minimal supplies and such short manpower all the departments could do a lot better job. Not to mention low moral when you've lost all your personal days, a week of vacation, increase in benefit payments and told to buy your own uniforms, mandatory. All this on less than $14.00 an hour and they give someone jet again an outrageous income, does not help things one bit. Same old song, corruption at it's best.

That is $9,000. per week plus expenses !

http://www.business-journal.com/defau...

Pishkur, who would report to Forum’s new CEO, who has yet to be hired, would be paid no more than $9,000 per week, plus “reasonable out-of-pocket business expenses.”

The $9,000 a week Forum proposes to pay Pishkur is equal to the salary he was paid as its CEO.

So many questions...

What happened to the search for a suitable CEO with healthcare experience?
What has Forum been compensating Buzz for the three weeks that have passed since his 'step-down?'
Does Forum really think the lenders with allow them to spend anymore of "THEIR" money on Buzz?

Forum, the clock is ticking... when will the ignorance end?

15Alexinytown(246 comments)posted 4 years, 9 months ago

$9000 a week... what a scam. How a cash strapped entity like Forum can even suggest paying this kind of money out on a weekly is basis is insulting to ME, and I do not even work there or have a connection to that hospital.

This is Youngstown, OH, not L.A. or New York. If you make $500 a week here you are lucky. $9,000 a week? What exactly does this man bring to the table to justify that kind of salary? If the lenders wanted him out of this, why on earth would they support this instead?

I guess they still can't figure out why they are bankrupt. So they rehire the guy that leads them into bankruptcy to explain to the new CEO how its done. It seems as though the higher up on the scale they are, the dumber they get.

Buzzy needs the money so he can continue to participate in the high-stakes poker game he plays in on Wednesday nights in Hubbard. It really isn't that hard to waste 9 grand a week. If anybody knows how to do it, Buzzy does.

Congratulations to the Vindicator for uncovering this minor detail hidden in the Bankruptcy filings. I can't stress this point enough: Less than 6 months ago, Mr. $ 9,000 a week Pishkur......was serving as an UNPAID, VOLUNTEER, Forum Health Board Member. Where he further VOLUNTEERED HIS EXPERT ADVICE FOR FREE AS A MEMBER OF THE FINANCE COMMITTEE. I again suggest that he be Re-Appointed to his position on the Forum Health Board of Directors, allowing the Hospital to benefit from his expert advice for FREE. Forum could get for Free what they want to pay $450K for.

According to the Business Journal article “the agreement runs from Oct. 8 through May 31….” $225 per hour is not out of line as an independent contractor status for this type of position, even in this valley, for under a year. He SHOULD be responsible for his own COBRA health benefit payments, receive no incentive payments and not receive any past perquisites such as pension accruals beyond his previous termination date. His role is transitional as a non employee while a new CEO is being hired. This was the creditor’s way to have him leave and pay him based upon "further needed services provided" rather than a termination and straight buy out with a lump sum cash settlement. The creditors most likely are looking for their own majority board members as well.

The Vindy should follow up on Pishkur to keep the public informed as to what he does with his nine grand a week . Forum Health has no shame in squandering such a large sum of money for a questionable need . To be paid such a large sum without a long history or in his case any history of successfully running a hospital raises many questions . Only an outcry and condemnation of such practices would bring them to an end .

25Crying(11 comments)posted 4 years, 9 months ago

Dear CompMan, are you saying that former Mr. Forum Health Board Member...with No Health Care experience or education...who previously volunteered on the Forum Board with NO Compensation...Would SUE Forum Health for being Terminated? Surely you jest! You say he is going to be paid for "further needed services..." What would they "need" Mr. Pishkur for, they just terminated his because they had "No Confidence" in his lack of ability to run a hospital system. Are both you and the Business Journal attempting to justify giving this man $ 9000 a week?

Forum's Board should all be fired tonight for having the nerve to even ask the court to approve $9K/week for an inexperienced, unproven, totally incompetent person. What a slap in the face to everyone trying to survive the lousy leadership that we've had to deal with lately.
Lenders, union leaders, physicians and all employees need to express their outrage immediately to everyone before it is too late. Hopefully the judge that hears this request will be wise enough to deny it.

Great Post Jeff Warren . More Bad News! Pay attention to the magistrate who hears this pay request. Would you be surprised if you heard it was one of Mr. Pishkur's golfing buddies from Youngstown Country Club. I agree with you about firing Forum's Board NOW. Remember, it was this Board that hired their fellow Board member with NO HEALTH CARE EXPERIENCE. This Board agreed to pay a Water Salesman with Basketball Referee experience more than $ 800,000.00 a year to fix the hospital they (and He) led into bankruptcy.

Forum health has been tanking since they have merged hospitals in the name of progress. They have been spending millions on consulting groups for the past 10 years to try to figure out how they should run the entity. Well, all those millions spent and the Forum Heath has been drained into bankrupcy but even now there continues to be a drain with another "consultant".

The Forum Board of Directors are at fault for all of the poor business decisions over the past decade..including giving Buzz an employment contract instead of hiring him on a per diem basis until a new CEO was retained. Remember! Buzz is receiving a 6 Figure Pension from Aqua Ohio, in addition to his $9,000 a week from Forum. Were the Forum Board members dumb enough to think that Buzz had other job opportunities? Forum Board Members you got Scammed and Buzzed. Not one comment from One Board Member? That SAYS it all my friends.

Whats your beaf against Buzz. The problem is saving Forum Health from these loan sharks because this valley and these workers are what is important. Paying an outsider $75,000 a month plus is a disgrace and will be the downfall of Forum. As a concerned citizen of this valley - what can I do?

Send Forum Health a check for $75,000. Your generosity will be appreciated . One donor a month would truly show the generosity of the community .

The board at Forum didn't have the balls to support Buzz's plan that's why this is such a big mess.Instead they let the lenders have control. Just protecting their own a----! The math skills of the general population and the unions who run Forum are questionable. Apparently $75,000 is okay. The support for the outsider & hatchet man only goes to show the lack of intelligence and ignorance. When the pink slips are handed out & cuts made & mayble a hospital or 2 closed, people will be standing around scratching their behinds and wondering what happened. The politicians are nothing but a bunch of gutless wonders. What a community we live in! JUST BEAM ME UP SCOTTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As an employee of Forum I also went along with the consessions and was positive with what we thought we could accomplish. Our union leadership and Buzz worked hard to get us back in the mainstream and back to a profitable business. The doctors were happy, the community leaders (mayors, business owners, politicians) were happy and employees all took a great interest in our commitment to the valley to be competitive and remain in business. Why did the court system fail us by permitting the Lenders to take over the day to day operations of our hospitals costing us tons of $$$? For the first time in history we were all united and working together.

There is absolutely nothing this "Buzz" dude could possibly do for Forum or any other hospital to warrant that kind of compensation. Never ceases to amaze me how gullible some people are. Not only is he a failure, the committee is going to give him the opportunity to prove it one more time.......

kick the whole board of directors out if they allow this to happen. they are not looking out for the best interest of forum health or the valley. staff are taking cuts, freezes and furloughs and this guy gets 9k a week. what dirt does he have on someone? suely he's not being paid for his expertise. he has none. Forum could hire a DC lobbyist for the same dough and I'm being honest.

The Lenders don.t give a xxxx about the employees or this community. Just money. The employees, the Unions, and Buzz united to gain stability. For all those who say they can do it better. Shut up, put up, or get out of the way We must dedicate our efforts to keep the doors at all sites open and minimize the $$$ that the Lenders are taking from us and stop the job losses.
