Plan for a good soaking

Published: Fri, October 9, 2009 @ 12:35 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — It looks like the rain is here to stay.

According to the National Weather Service, the Mahoning Valley can expect a great deal of rainfall and perhaps even a thunderstorm this afternoon and well into the evening. Showers are expected to begin at about 2 p.m. and last until about 3 a.m. Saturday. Between a quarter and a half an inch of rain is expected this afternoon. An additional tenth of an inch is expected tonight.

Along with the rain, heavy winds are also expected up to 64 miles per hour.

A large storm front traveling east is sweeping across the Midwest and is expected to slam into Ohio and its neighboring states, which could create flash floods in some areas. A flood watch is in effect for Mahoning and Trumbull counties and will expire tonight.

Things are expected to clear up by sunrise tomorrow. There is a 20 percent chance of precipitation and the forecast is calling for mostly cloudy conditions Saturday.
