FirstEnergy heeds state, postpones bulb program

Published: Thu, October 8, 2009 @ 5:33 p.m.

COLUMBUS — FirstEnergy is postponing distribution of millions of energy-efficient light bulbs, company officials told the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio late Thursday.

PUCO spokeswoman Shana Eiselstein said the company has assured PUCO Chairwoman Alan Schriber that it would hold off on launching the program for the time being. It had planned to begin delivering bulbs next week.

“They are not going to begin distribution of the light bulbs on Monday, and they will begin discussions with PUCO about the program next week,” Eiselstein said.

The decision came after a public outcry from customers over FirstEnergy’s plans to deliver and charge customers for the light bulbs and calls from Schriber and Gov. Ted Strickland to postpone the program.

Wonderful idea after we have put in 22 fluorescent lights bulbs at an expense we do not want to have to spend a second time because these lights are capable of last 7 years plus. It is time for companies to stop demanding customers must do this or that when in reality it truthfully would not be necessary for many people especially the elderly !! Posted by Derick

here's the best part-the bulbs were most likely already purchased by FE so I'm sure we'll be paying for them some way or the other!

I am sure we will. they may have postponed it but notice they have not scraped the idea altogether.

All I know is that their shoving their overpriced light bulbs down consumers' throats will, I say WILL, result in a class action lawsuit.

One thing is this.....there is NO guarantee anyone receiving these bulbs will use them!! I use them already, thank you, I don't need to be supplied with over priced bulbs. I surely don't need ANYONE telling me I have to take them and pay for them. This is still the USA, isn't it??

dont need to short our electric bill. Lets just go to the dollar store, buy a regular incendecent light bulb,.. and mail it to First Energy, I think they will get the idea!

And by the way...why does the "state" get credit for the postponement of this lightbulb idea, and not "we the people", who raised holy hell over this?

Postponed is not cancelled or allow you to opt out. Stay tuned for round two. Notice how all the Democrooks ran for cover over this program. Cap and Trade is coming soon from Obama and his Democrook Congress. That will be another Ohio & valley job killer just like NAFTA was.
