What's an "Opie" title? Mooney1993 sounds alot like a bitter former player who never stepped on the field. I'm not a fan of Mooney, but it is what is. No one complains when public schools have open enrollment.
The bottom line is this: People choose to send their kids to Catholic schools because of academics, not just athletics. The public school system especially around here sucks, so if you could, why wouldn't you send your kids to a Catholic school?
If you look around the state, public schools fare pretty well in the state playoffs, it's not always a Catholic sweep.

Mooney 1993 is Hater... Not.

Don't let the guy fool you, no Mooney fan would be BSing about Ursuline and Mooney on this website as much as him.

He is nothing more than a Catholic hater.

“Somehow you think I've spent lots of energy here in the blogosphere. Actually, I've spent little energy.” Mooney1993

You posted negative comments on the UHS and CMHS wins this evening within an hour of the respective stories being posted on this site. You have tallied a whopping 69 comments on this subject. Your “research” has been exhaustive. Yet you have expended no energy. Again I am awed by your tireless commitment to this national travesty of justice!

By the way you could at least give the Cards a little credit this evening as they handily defeated one of the acknowledged best teams in the state regardless of OHSAA divisional status. I am sure the folks at the Daily Kos and MSNBC will give you dispensation for such minor praise of Catholicism.

I have just had a flash of brillance. Why not enlist Michael Moore to film a documentary on this incredible moral injustice? As his last film was such a huge success and I am positive he is currently seeking his next topic to maintain his momentum.

I think that there should be a Catholic High School Football Division in Ohio, fight it out amongst yourself. This would save yourself a lot of time and money recruiting so many non-Catholic players. You know what I mean, the ones that don't go to Mass on their own, the kids that will be discarded after possible graduation. Don't argue with the reality of the fact.

Hey Fun,
I will credit Mooney1993 for the ability to properly structure a sentence though he is hardly a literary genius. Perhaps if you had attended a parochial school you too would have learned this skill. You and Mooney1993 definitely share a misunderstanding of the word fact. Please visit www.dictionary.com and review the definitions of the words fact and opinion.

LOL Big Red got beat. The folks down there look at it as a normal loss... nothing to do with public vs catholic schools.

I am a transplant to this area but Big Red Alum from 96...... seriously no one is too concerned with what type of school beat them. They are just disappointed that it was a loss, but will move on to looking towards next year.

Mooney outplayed them. Simple as that. Congrats to them coming in there and playing hard.

I think everyone gets their panties in too big of a bunch over what they think the politics of High School sports are.

Can we please remember that these are just high school boys playing football? They play to win, play to have fun. Let them do that :D

GYPSYGIRL Why no congratulations to Farrell? We may very well have 4 state champions in the area and that would be a great accomplishment. Western Pa. and Northeastern Ohio have some of the best football players on the high school level anywhere.

Ooops I should have corrected how I did my post...

I wasn't LOL @ Big Red for losing (I still have neices and nephews down there -- 1 in band, 1 a cheerleader, and 2 play football - HS and MS)

I put LOL for all the postings both negative and positive

I personally am NOT a big fan of any sport, I do think that there is WAY TOO much emphasis put on organized sports. I think the focus is too much about that and not enough on education (but that is a gripe for another day :D ) but regardless of that feeling -- it's about the kids.

How about more of the adults and other fans just get out their and support the KIDS who are out their playing hard.. cheer loud when they do good, cheer when they do bad, pat them on the back when they need them... but just get out there and support them rather than over what you think is not fair or whatever.

OK....Let's get the stories straight...1.) Mooney DOES NOT recruit. 2.) Anyone who says that they do is a complete and total moron. I went to Mooney and I know this for fact! Our star quarterback grew up with me through our parochial school system. Parents decide to send their kids to Mooney because of their superior academics not soley for sports. However, there is nothing wrong with kids coming to Mooney to get a better education and play sports, even if they don't go to Mass every Sunday. I went to parochial school my whole life and rarely go to Mass! Mooney hasn't always had a great football team but noone complains and says they recruit then! I am so tired of hearing these falacies. If parents decide to spend the money to send their kid to Mooney to play football then thats all well and good. Don't cry and complain if you choose not to! If I wanted my kid to play for a winning team and receive a great education, then Mooney would be my number one choice. Steubenville has been talking crap on Mooney for years. I even remember a remark being made about Mooney being afraid to play them. That is laughable. I hope they enjoyed the game since noone can get a fair game in Steubenville. Way to go Big Red lol!!! Bye haters!

As suspected Mooney1993's objection to parochial participation in the OHSAA system is nothing more than a sublimation of his hatred for Catholicism. He points to the moral deficiencies and dysfunctions of individuals within the Church and the Church’s inexcusable response to these individual’s actions as an analogy to parochial schools supposed cheating and immoral participation in the OHSAA sports tournaments. His logic is flawed and hateful. I cannot imagine the negative energy and anger necessary for him to conceive such hurtful concepts. I entered this discussion with Mooney1993 in a light-hearted fashion as I enjoy passionate, aggressive debate. Unfortunately the last several contributions from this troubled individual reveal an ugly, unreasonable religious bigotry. It is time to abandon this endless debate and simply cheer the Cards to another state championship.

I am becoming more and more convinced that mooney1993 had to be picked on in high school. Did you coach or something not play you and you feel like with an alias name that you can get back at the school that got at you. You might be one of the most pathetic human being I have ever heard. As to bashing the whole Church, back off, I really cant stand people who are politically and religiously uneducated. Until you can get your facts straight why dont you go sit at the little kids table and let the adults talk about stuff that actually makes sense.

Congratulations to both Mooney and Ursuline!!
What I am upset about is that for the State championship, Mooney has to play at 11:00 a.m. That is a time that NO school practices or plays and yet they have to play at that time for the State title! It's all about money for the OHSAA!

I attended Mooney and played a variety of sports, including football. I have friends (some of whom are current coaches) and relatives that went/go to Mooney. Anyone who contends Mooney recruits athletes is unquestionably misinformed. The jealous undertones are so transparent. The formula is simple, success breeds success. As the Cardinals continue their reign of supremacy, parents will be perpetually inclined to give their kids an opportunity at achieving greatness. If you have the fiscal wherewithall to provide your children with THE BEST experience in the classroom and on the football field, why would you deprive them of that? To Mooney93 who also believes our academics aren't top knotch, I say this. I graduated with students who went on to become doctors, attorneys, CPAs, engineers and VPs of corporations.Yes, other schools can boast that accomplishment, but not with the same propensity. The public v. private debate will never cease to exist, but if this discussion is inevitable, let's at least do it with substantive and supportable arguments. Bring home another hard-earned title to the valley.

the people who are saying it's so unfair are most likely the same people that ran their mouths before they got destroyed by mooney. it seems as devildog is one of them.
since mooney is by far the best program in the area, let's all make excuses and say it's unfair.
congratulations mooney, now bring home that title! since none of the public schools can

No one put a gun to their head, devildog. They could have gone to their public school if they wanted to. Obviously they chose Mooney or Ursuline for a reason. Let's face it. Everyone has the choice to go where they want to go for their own reasons. No one forced them to do it.

Mooney and Ursuline should combine and play all Division 1 Catholic schools... True story, a Mooney asst. coach told me that they actually feel like they have a break in their schedule when they reach playoffs. Then they tune it back up for the Championship game.

Mooney and Ursuline are both great teams. Mooney squeaked one out against Ursuline in the regular season, so that proves they are both very good. Steubenville Big Red played a great schedule, as well. They beat Woodland Hills 13-0 and they are one of the top teams in all of Pennsylvania. They beat Massillon, who just exited the playoffs this past weekend. Their only loss was a 36-28 loss to Inkster, Michigan, a top team in Michigan. Mooney made Steubenville look like a junior varsity school. As long as Mooney and Ursuline win the state titles, we should be proud because they are from YOUNGSTOWN!!!!
