Pavlik tickets going on sale soon

Published: Sat, November 21, 2009 @ 12:10 a.m.

By Joe Scalzo

Prices are $50, $100, $150 and $250 for the Dec. 19 event, and seats will be available 9 a.m. Wednesday.

YOUNGSTOWN — Kelly Pavlik’s fans won’t have to wait until Black Friday to start their Christmas shopping.

Tickets for Pavlik’s upcoming middleweight title fight against Miguel Espino at YSU’s Beeghly Center will go on sale 9 a.m. Wednesday on Tickets.com. Tickets for the Dec. 19 bout will cost $50, $100, $150 and $250.

YSU’s ticket office is closed from Wednesday through the holiday weekend, meaning Tickets.com will be the only site offering tickets next week. An $8 processing fee is added to each ticket.

The Beeghly Center ticket office will re-open on Nov. 30, but those tickets will also carry the processing fee.

“Your best bet is to get them through Tickets.com next week, rather than wait until the ticket office opens the following week,” said Shannon Tirone, YSU’s executive director of events management. “Because once they’re gone, they’re gone.”

Tickets for February’s bout between Pavlik and Marco Antonio Rubio at Covelli ranged from $50 to $500, with about 5,000 of the available 7,500 tickets selling in less than 30 minutes, including all the $50 and $100 seats.

Beeghly Center will seat about 7,000.

Pavlik (35-1, 31 KOs), who is making his first title defense since then, will join Espino for a press conference 3 p.m. Tuesday in Las Vegas.

Pavlik is training in Las Vegas for the bout. He usually trains in Youngstown.

Espino (20-2-1, 9 KOs), of North Hollywood, Calif., is riding a four-year, 11-bout winning streak, with his last four victories coming by way of knockout.

The fight will be televised live on pay-per-view by Top Rank.

Pavlik’s trainer, Jack Loew, said he’s gotten a big response from area fans already. He ordered between 70 and 80 of the $150 and $250 tickets through Top Rank — those are all gone, he said — about $45,000 worth of general admission seats. Loew sells the tickets for face value (which includes the $8 processing fee, in this case) and does not make a profit.

“I only have about five or 10 of the general admission seats left,” he said, “so my response has been great.”

Loew is also in charge of the undercard bouts and plans to showcase local fighters Chris Hazimihalis of Campbell (who will make his pro debut) and Jake Giuriceo of Campbell and Struthers (who made his pro debut on February’s undercard). Both have big local followings.

“That’s the key,” Loew said. “They have so many fans, and they’re going to sell a lot of tickets. I think it’s going to be a really good show.”

If Lowe bought 80 tickets at $258 a piece that would be $20,640. How does the Vindy say that equals $45,000?

Um...golfball. The general admission seats are what he's got $45K invested in. That would be the tix selling for $50-$100. So my assumption is he's got between 450-900 seats blocked out...

$50--250-man what a deal----30 min at most--seems to me money that could well be spent for a family turkey dinner for 20 or pay the electric bill or money to go for a house-payment..but thats just me.Hey have a merry x-mas--i<m sure Pavlick will..

I wouldnt go to see that fight for free let alone pay $50.00 dollars to go to Beeghly Center to see Pavlik fight a nobody. I would rather pay money to watch Pacquio or Mayweather on HBO and at least see fighters that are fighting competitive fights. It is sad that Pavlik is going to end up being a disapointment to the area. And by the way the 13th round service and food is horrible. Prolly the worst wings i have ever had and both times i ate their had to wait 45 minutes to an hour for six wings and the "PAV Sandwhich". Maybe they should have a sandwhich called "The Drunk". You get a cold cut sandwhich, one beer, a shot, two advils, and you have to wait an hour to get it.

Hey Valley Resident. Get a life! At least Kelly has a restaurant and a career. I've said it before and I'll say it again, why do some of you people continue to bash Kelly and other people in this area. You are probably the same moron who bashes Lordstown and GM as well as anything else positive in this area. Kelly brings money into the area and has made millions for himself. What have you done? I would love to see all of you haters say this stuff to Pavlik's face and have him knock your teeth out. Go get 'em Kelly. The intelligent people in this area appreciate you and what you do for the Valley.

Pavlik is a BEAST!!! That's why you go to the fight! He's only got 31KO's in 35 fight's.Middleweight Champion of the world!!! Youngstown has a Champion they should be proud of! I met Kelly in Philly(Chickie and Pete's) and he signed some gloves for me and then brought my family up for some pictures. My son got a kick at how big he is.If you like your guy to knockout the other fighter out, go on the 19th. If Kelly fight's like he did vs Taylor and Miranda, no middleweight can beat him!

Agreed. We want to see Kelly wipe the floor with someone. $50-$100 I'm willing to spend to stay in Y-town and have a fun night with friends. People always complain there is nothing to do in this area so why wouldn't you go see a world class fighter who represents our area. May never happen again in our lifetime. Go Kelly!

Hey Gil first off your the moron. Don't get mad at me because you bus tables at the 13th round and Pavlik prolly gave you a job or something like that. I on the other hand have graduated from a great University in this area called Youngstown State University and I am a supporter of GM/Lordstown. I also do community and public service in the area. Do you think someone that is a drunk and has been arrested is a good role model for the area? In a town like Youngstown do you think people should have to pay 50 dollars for a fight were jobs are few and far between. Hey Pavlik why arent you fighting Paul Williams? Ohh thats right because he would wipe the floor with you. Sometimes the truth hurts Gil.

Prolly is not a word. I assume you mean probably. Anyway, would you like the tickets to be free? Should Mr. Pavlik just fight for free here in Y-town because jobs are "few and far between". That's a moronic statement there. While we are at it, why doesn't Jim Tressel come back to Youngstown and coach the Penguins for free? I mean there are no jobs here so we can't afford to pay him the millions that OSU does so he, like Kelly, owes it to Youngstown. Like I said, typical Youngstown thinking there that everyone owes you something.

Let's start ripping on Bernie Kosar while we are at it. He's another guy who has done nothing but good things for our area and has hit a bad patch in his life. I guess he's a bum and a drunk too.

Some times Youngstown just amazes me. The mentality of some people there is part of the reason this city still struggles. To say Kelly Pavlik isn't good for the city of Youngstown is crazy this guy will do any appearance people ask him to do no questions asked. Also people complaining about ticket prices because its in Youngstown?! If they had this in Atlantic City prices would be double and cost you triple to travel from Youngstown. Get real people if you can't afford it don't go but $50 dollars to watch a world champion is a deal. Also Pavlik should apologize for bring business to the beeghly center maybe he should have just taken the fight out of Youngstown because I"m sure that would be better for the city right? Since no one can afford it in Youngstown just screw it lets not even give the people of Youngstown a chance to see their hometown star without traveling 7 hours. Kelly Pavlik such a terrible guy.....

If it's true that Kelly is a drunk, i say keep drinking. I wish i could get on hbo, my own restaurant, make a few million, and be Champ all while drunk. He should come out with his own beer and call it "The Drunk" and after every knockout he can crack one open. Put me down for a case!
