Just pick up a shovel

EDITOR:

Recently, I had the opportunity to read TIME. What I found was report after report about how some remote area of some remote country is ripe for the picking by some terrorist group. Why? Because their government hasn’t done enough to satisfy their economic needs. So, instead of picking up a shovel and digging a foundation, or diverting a stream, or sinking a well, or planting a seed, they choose to pick up a gun and kill their neighbor.

What motivates people to sit around waiting for government to do for them when they can do for themselves and then turn to violence when that magical elixir doesn’t arrive? The answer escapes many Americans. It especially escapes them when the question arises in their own country. The recent passage of the health care bill in the House is a prime example.

Make no mistake; the health care bill is not about improving the health of the American people. If it was, it would be filled with shovels like tort reform, government run health clinics, and access to Medicare/Medicaid for pre-existing conditions. Instead it is filled with guns like reduced payments to doctors, limited access to services, mandates, taxes and penalties. It is simply a wealth and power grab by a bunch of Socialists and their ardent sympathizers.

The Liberals pushing this legislation would rather vilify insurance companies, which brought affordable health care to 85 percent of the American people, than show any distrust of Socialist government, which, since the French Revolution, has brought us the guillotine, Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Tse-tung and Pol Pot. Socialism/Communism has been a failure for most of the people who have been forced to endure it. But apparently history means nothing to these angry tools of the Socialist cause.

Maybe things will be different this time. Maybe American Socialists will be different than Russian or Chinese or Cambodian Socialists. Maybe that is their “Hope,” that these new Socialists have “Changed.”

When I first read this letter, I thought the metaphor was a bit obtuse...but then I re-read this line: "The Liberals pushing this legislation would rather vilify insurance companies, which brought affordable health care to 85 percent of the American people"...and thought the writer must be either a) be living on another planet or b) on some kind of illegal pharmaceutical or other controlled substance. Seriously? Does the letter writer think paying over $1,000 A MONTH for a family plan is affordable health insurance? The writer should note for future reference, when one makes wildly inaccurate and/or unsubstantiated statements, it negates and nullifies the entire intent/content of one's opinion. What might have been an opinion to ponder is now just heaped on the pile of further conservative drivel and fear-mongering.

CandyfromCanfield- I don't disagree with your position that $1,000/mo for health insurance is a lot of money. I know cause that what I pay every month for ours.

Unfortunately, what the Bill in question offers is exactly what Mr. Maskell states. When Tim Ryan & Charlie Wilson got up and made their little speaches they lied to every one of us. They talked about this wonderful plan that they had come up with and what marvelous things it was going to do for us. They COMPLETELY OMITTED WHAT THE BILL WHAT GOING TO DO TO US!

There is an excellent article in the Nov 7/8, 2009 edition of the Wall Street Journal which disects the bill and summarizes some very important provisions that they FAILED TO MENTION. The article-"What the Pelosi Health-Care Bill Really Says" was written by Betsy McCaughey. I suggest that you read this article and you may understand the point that Mr. Maskell was making in his letter.

Mr. Ryan & Mr. Wilson in their assessment of this bill are akin to the old west snake oil salesmen. If their lips are moving, they are lying to you. I guarantee that neither of them bothered to read the bill.

SkyKing.....The Wall Street Journal is owned by Rupert Murdoch which makes it about as reliable as a news organization as his Fix Noise Network is.

Yes SkyKing, you must watch the alphabet networks plus CNN only and believe everything they say. Do not, I repeat, do not read anything else and stoop so low as to think for yourself.

What I really like is that the daisy chain networks are really scared of the little Fox network. If they were not they would just ignore Fox, right?

From what I have read the government is after a greater share of your health care dollar . If you are employed by government or on welfare you will not have to worry .

Is anyone going to tell Candystriper that she is the victim of an internet/ viral e-mail scam? (And an old recycled one at that.)

Mr. Maskell is right on.

Socialism is never about compassion. It is a scheme used by the rulers (or wanna be rulers) to secure and increase their power.

Somehow, after the lessons of rise of socialism in Europe resulting in mass genocide, many here in the USA (and posting on the Vindy) advocate strongly on behalf of socialism. These are what Lenin called, "useful idiots."

"How do you tell a Communist? Well, it's someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an Anti-communist? It's someone who understands Marx and Lenin."

Hellsbells- You better read the bill if you think that Candystriper is the victim of a scam.

As STAN pointed out-unless you are a gov't employee or on welfare- you are going to be the victim of the Pelosi Health-Care Bill.

Here's just a sample-Sec.59b (pp.297-299) says that when you file your taxes, you MUST include proof that that you are in a qualified plan. If not, you will be subject to a fine. Illegal immigrants are exempt from this requirement.
