HARRISON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man has been jailed on domestic violence charges after police say he excessively paddled his 10-year-old son.
Police in the Cincinnati suburb of Harrison say county children’s services workers turned over their investigative findings and photos of alleged abuse. That led to the arrest Thursday night of 35-year-old Robert Gibson, who was being held without bond today.
Police say Gibson used a homemade wooden paddle.

This would never occur in Youngstown as the kids are not paddled and allowed the freedom to express themselves on the streets .
I don't know how they define "excessive" but paddling needs to be reinstated to discipline the youth and stabilize the respect and order of society.
The youth must have been paralyzed or become permanently disabled for the Father to have been arrested. What choices are left for parents, especially single parent homes, today if they cannot discipline their out of control kids? -Drop them off at a fire station or hospital permanently with no questions asked?!
This Father in trying to do the proper thing probably didn't know the extent of the paddling and would have sought other disciplinary actions outside of and including paddling if he did.
Time out does not work and any parent knows this. Parents who are opposed to discipline such as paddling are to blame for many of societal ills today and I"ll bet their kids run rampant without conscience today being the miscreant hooligans that they are, destroying the fabric of our city.
That said -

I'm all for paddling, but if there are "photos", it sounds like he did cross the line of discipline and landed in abuse.
They are taught this in school that no one is allowed to touch or hit them and to call the police if they do. The kid know their Parents are not permitted to spank them and will threaten the Parents with arrest if they try. That is why these kid run wild, drive crazy, disrespect all people .When I was a kid our neighbors would spank us if we were bad an then call our parents about it and was spank when we got home for being bad around other people. And yes, they used belts ,paddles, or whatever was handy. With the new law on the books, if a person or child, calls the police about domestic violence, about being spank, etc. the police have no choice but to arrest the accused regardless if innocent or guilty.
