Ohio hunter found dead in western, Pa., tree stand

Published: Thu, November 12, 2009 @ 10:18 a.m.

HOOKSTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say a 74-year-old hunter from Ohio has been found dead in a tree stand in western Pennsylvania.

Hanover Fire Chief Donald Plance says it appears that Gerald Welder, of Hudson, Ohio, died of natural causes. The Beaver County coroner is investigating, but says it appears Welder died of heart-related problems.

Police say Welder’s relatives went looking for him and found him about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in a wooded area of Hanover Township. That’s near the Ohio line, about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
