BOARDMAN — A gunman got away with an undetermined amount of cash from a U.S. Route 224 fast food restaurant.
Early Wednesday morning, a masked man forced his way into Taco Bell, Boardman-Canfield Road, as the night manager was trying to lock the doors. The manager, 20, was knocked to the floor and treated at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center after complaining of head and back pain.
The robber then went into the counter, pointed a handgun at the cashier and demanded money.
The cashier turned over all of the cash from the drawer and the gunman fled.

Is it already time to start with the scare tactics? Usually, the levy is put on the ballot first and then the scare machine starts.
I've said there is LITTLE violent crime in Boardman. Still true too. Been like one murder in the last 10 years and that was a domestic dispute. Boardman crime is mostly property crimes involving shoplifters at Walmart, some purse snatchings, gas station drive offs, stolen lawn furniture or bicycles, and other petty crimes. But be sure there are the scare mongers like foxtrot who think the boogy man criminal is all around us and we should send all of our incomes to the township so they can make Boardman a police township.
Crime usually increases around the holidays. Criminal Justice class 101. One armed robbery does not make a crime wave. Criminal Justice class 102.
Well if there was anything left to rob in Youngstown the crazies wouldn't hop on the bus and come into Boardman to rob and pillage. There is also the possibility that it could be one of applewood acres lovely apartment residents. The rash of car break ins must not be keeping them living flush. Heres hoping the BPD can get an excuse to lock up some of those assets to our community. This is why we need to make sure our police force responds quickly you pompous nutbag. I'm just really glad no one was seriously injured.
If you want BPD trampling your rights ,more power to you but,I don't want their illegal seaches and on and on in my life.
That's why I never go to Boardman how about you creeps staying out of Youngstown,go somewhere else to buy your crack and heroin.
Many of these types of "robberies" are inside jobs! Often a former employee who knows the time frames and habits of the manager. Sometimes the manager is also involved.
Again, there are some people locally who want to believe that crime in Boardman is rampant when it isn't. Get ready though, when that levy hits the ballot, we'll be hearing about every little theft in the township.
Wow, typical answer of someone who is doing something against the law. You see, if you aren't breaking any laws then the searches you speak of would actually be illegal and you could sue and win and move on up like the Jeffersons. I don't do anything wrong and I don't get harassed. I also don't act like a loud abnoxious donkey in public and wonder why I'm looked at like one.
Can you imagine being 20yrs old and being knocked down by a gunman trying to rob you? I am glad no one got seriously hurt and hopefully the BPD will be able to catch them. On a side note - I have no issues with BPD pulling me over and I don't feel they are trampling on my rights ... in my honest opinion I'm glad that you choose to stay out of the Boardman area because if you are worried about the BPD that means you probably have something to hide...
Its Criminal Justice 1500 at YSU.
Ps. apollo. I do hear about every little crime in the township. Go back to October 19th and check the police log for thefts from autos in applewood right in the vicinity of those crackhouse apartments. nine in one night. nine seperate autos were broken into in that area alone. that was just one night. You know how you say things are getting worse? you are right, like i said, they don't steal anything in youngstown anymore because there is nothing left to steal. so they move into cheap apartments in boardman with their government money and steal here now.
Does everyone reading this see that apollo is actually so caught up in his personal vendetta for not being hired that he is making the case for the current crime rate being ok in boardman? What an IDIOT!!!!!!!
Hint hint, just because it isn't violent crime doesn't make it ok , apollo. Theft and burglary are nonviolent crimes and the number of those is climbing in boardman, toughguy.
And incidentally, Im sure the criminal in this case was not in cahoots with the township to get a levy passed , but with your skewed way of thinking im sure you will make the case that he was.
boardman needs a change, I agree. They move on up and we have to move on it.
that's move on out!
And I just moved to Boardman...rats!
9 cars broken into in one night, oooohhhh what a crime wave. Probably the same perp for all 9.
Make sure to vote yes for the coming police levy then if you are afraid of the boogy men from Youngstown.
We could hire 1,000 police and the crime rate won't change.
Oh yeah, I'm still ticked off about that menial IT job that I didn't have the opportunity to take a massive pay cut for! ROTFLMAO.
They don't like the truth do they?
Am I OK with the current crime rate? Absolutely. It's minimal for a township with 40+ thousand and all this retail.
You are right, probably all by one perpetrator. Just imagine, this one guy can hit nine in one night, probably has the cajones to do it ten times a year, and lets just say for the sake of argument that there are forty more just like him. Considering these numbers are low if anything, and you say there are 40 some thousand people in boardman, wouldn't that make it a 1 in something like 15 chance that your car will get hit? I'd say that makes for a nice little crime wave, pal. Thats just for your gps or car stereo. I and other will vote for a levy if needed, and you will have to pay from your HEFTY paycheck that you so often feel the need tell us about. Go fly a kite you pompous trashbag. enjoy the last word too, I'm out.
Hey Foxtrot- ALL hospitals are exempt from property taxes that are owned by non-profits.
HMHP & Akron Children's hospital are both Non-profit.
Why do you go hide under your rock & leave those of us that care about this community to deal with the problems at hand. BTW- I don't give a flying F about your rating of Boardman.
