Published: Tue, November 10, 2009 @ 3:41 p.m.

Capt. Robert Kane, who served more than 10 years as chief of detectives at the Youngstown Police Department, died of cancer Monday in Hospice House, Beaver Township.

Kane, 63, who lived in Poland, was born Sept. 4, 1946, in Youngstown, was appointed to the city police department Feb. 1, 1971, and had retired Oct. 22 after 38 years of service, just over two weeks before his death.

Most recently, he was day-turn patrol commander, but he had been on medical leave for his final 10 months on the force.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Church in Youngstown. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman.
