Ohio Hispanic group to distribute books to students

Published: Fri, November 6, 2009 @ 1:06 p.m.

CINCINNATI (AP) — A Hispanic chamber of commerce has published a book it hopes will help students better understand Hispanic and other immigrant groups and curb anti-immigrant sentiment in the Cincinnati area.

The Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati USA hopes to get 15,000 copies of the educational book into the hands of junior high school students. The book is intended to educate them about six major groups of immigrants who have come to the area since the 1830s.

The chamber president says letters were sent to 530 school principals in the region to let them know teasing and harassment does exist. He says the chamber received seven letters in reply.

The chamber says a Cincinnati historian and Cincinnati Museum Center staff reviewed the content of the book for accuracy.
