Valley home sales drop in September

Home sales were down throughout the Mahoning Valley in September.

In Mahoning County, 158 homes were sold in September, compared with 177 in the same month of 2008, according to figures released Tuesday by the Youngstown Columbiana Association of Realtors.

The average sales price in Mahoning County in September was $86,202, compared with $100,159 in September 2008. Sellers needed an average of 104 days to complete a deal in September, compared with 111 days in September 2008.

In Trumbull County, 125 homes were sold in September, compared with 131 in the same month of 2008.

The average sales price in September was $74,093, compared with $88,163 in the same month a year earlier. The average number of selling days for a deal was 102, down from 108.

In Columbiana County, 58 homes were sold in September, compared with 61 in the same month of 2008.

The average sales price in September was $77,371, compared with $73,462 a year earlier. The number of selling days in September was 83, compared with 116 a year earlier.

Columbiana County is desirable despite it's 7% sales tax rate. Crime is far less there. Trumbull and Mahoning aren't worth what they used to be.
