Mahoning sanitary engineer tabbed as next Canfield city manager

Published: Wed, November 4, 2009 @ 8:55 p.m.

CANFIELD – Mahoning County Sanitary Engineer Joseph Warino is set to become Canfield’s next city manager.

City council voted unanimously tonight to appoint Warino, 56, to the post, effective Dec. 1. His retirement from the county position, which he’s had since 1997, is effective Nov. 27.

Warino’s two-year contract with the city includes a salary of $70,000 per year. His appointment is contingent upon a pre-employment medical exam and criminal and personal history background checks.

Warino will replace Charles Tieche who announced his plans to retire in 2007 when the search for his replacement began. Tieche has had the position since 1991.

Pretty sweet, retire from the county at the age of 56, tap into that retirement and then get another trough job that will take the pension to the next level. How do regular people get these public jobs?
