LIBERTY — A union leader was confident this afternoon that union members at General Motors’ Lordstown complex were voting in favor of a new labor deal by a wide margin.
Jim Graham, president of United Auto Workers Local 1112, said the mood inside the informational meetings at the Metroplex Hotel was upbeat despite the concessions in the offer. Workers seemed willing to pass the agreement in the hopes of keeping GM operating, Graham said.
All of the workers interviewed outside of the meeting said they were for the agreement, which is being voted on this week by UAW locals across the country.
Voting locally ends at 6 p.m. today.

Funny how the vindicator or any othe local source have not broke the news that GM will announce 14 new plant closings and 21,000 job cuts on monday. For all of the news, try the Associated Press.
Here is what we posted earlier this morning:
AP Source: GM to announce 14 plant closures Monday
May 28th, 2009 9:48 a.m.
DETROIT (AP) — A person briefed on General Motors Corp.'s plans says the company on Monday will identify the 14 factories it will close as it heads toward a likely Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection filing.
The person says United Auto Workers officials in Detroit have told plant-level union leaders that the company will make the announcement, not the union. The person did not want to be identified because the plan has not been made public.
GM spokeswoman Sherri Childers Arb would not comment on Thursday.
GM has said it soon will identify factories to be closed under its restructuring plan. About 21,000 jobs will be lost.
