YOUNGSTOWN — A Canfield physician and Youngstown State University graduate has been appointed to the YSU Board of Trustees.
Gov. Ted Strickland named Dr. John Russell Jakubek to the post Friday.
Jakubek will complete the unexpired term of Dr. Dianne Bitonte Miladore until mid 2014. Miladore stepped down after being appointed to the Board of Trustees at the Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Jakubek is an anesthesiologist and serves on the staff of both Bel-Park Anesthesia Associates Inc. and St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center, where he is also a member of the Clinical Medical Executive Committee. He is a didactic and clinical instructor at the St. Elizabeth Health Center School for Nurse Anesthetists and medical director of the Surgery Center of Canfield.
He is past president of Bel-Park Anesthesia Associates.
“I’m a lifelong member of this community,” said the 1975 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School.

I still do not understand why they put these kiss-ass political contributers on these Boards throughout Ohio instead of, say a plumber, an electrician, a restuarant manager, a firefighter. It is just so superficial. What is wrong with putting common-folk, simple-minded citizens within the mix? If you think for a moment that this guy didn't woo local democrat leaders to get this cushy appointment, then........
To the above poster: You don't even know this person and you come on this board and blast him. Dr. Jakubek is smart as a whip, ethical, a great family man, humble, and a great all round person. Instead of coming on here and congratulating him and giving him a chance, you come on here spewing your hate and envy. I pity you.
I agree with the previous poster. John is a great contributor to the local area. He is involved in the community.
