Minor injury reported in North Side shooting

Published: Mon, May 18, 2009 @ 10:40 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — A 12-year-old sustained a minor scalp laceration when numerous gunshots were fired in the 400 Block of Crandall Avenue this afternoon, striking two parked cars, including one containing the juvenile and his mother. The mother told police she had just pulled into a driveway when two men leaned out of the passenger window of a jeep-type vehicle and began shooting. She said she and her son ducked down and the rear window of her vehicle exploded and the windshield shield splintered and cracked. She estimated 20 to 25 shots were fired.

Also damaged in the shooting, reported at about 4:10 p.m., was a car owned by the occupant of the home in front of which the shooting occurred. The occupant said she heard multiple shots and came out of her home to find 13 shotgun pellet holes in the front bumper of her car, the radiator leaking coolant, and the left front tire flat. Police recovered a 20-guage shotgun shell casing at the scene.

Yeah, we know, Youngstown is horrible and Austintown and the surrounding suburbs are just gravy.

You don't have to tell the people who are living in it, jackass.

And change doesn't happen overnight, but I assure you there is a large and growing group of people in Youngstown working towards making it better.

Really? Jackass? Maybe you could bring your group over my way and round up the thugs that won't let me drive down my own street. Way to read CLEVER, or not so clever. I said OUR streets, as in, I live here too. I'm just tired of people making excuses for this place by trying to bash the surroudning areas when facts are facts. This place is a "hole" because of the people in it and those places aren't.

Nah, I think Austintown is just as much of a hole as Youngstown. I've lived there too.

Why don't you get your own group to "round up those thugs"? I'm not going vigilante to make things better, there are other ways(better ways) to induce positive change in the community. My biggest personal committment is that I'm raising my kids to be better people than what they're surrounded by.

As a topic-related note, best wishes for a speedy recovery to the 12 yr old and his family for the physical and emotional hurt they've experienced.
