Elderly woman killed in Bristol crash
BRISTOL — Emily R. Janowski, 88, of Orwell was killed in a two-car accident on state Route 45, just south of Housel Craft Road in the township Friday afternoon.
Janowski was a passenger in a car driven by Rose A. Gideon, 87, of North Bloomfield, which was northbound on Route 45 when a car driven by Milan Jankuj, 71, of Cortland traveling southbound on Route 45 crossed the center line and collided with the other vehicle, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
The OSHP is continuing to investigate the accident, but alcohol was not a factor in the crash, the patrol reported.
Gideon suffered a severe injury and was flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center, while Jankuj suffered a minor injury and was treated at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Janowski was pronounced dead at the scene.
St. Elizabeth Health Center had no record of Gideon on Saturday evening.

There are too many elderly people driving that have NO BUSINESS behind the wheel. NO BUSINESS AT ALL. They want to talk about the young people. I think the elderly are just as bad. I think they should have to PROVE they can still handle a care after a certain age. Not just the eye test, but a driving test. I've seen them driving down the wrong on/off ramps. The don't stop for red lights or stop signs. They damage other cars in parking lots. Parking too close and slamming doors or shopping carts into vehicles. Pay attention for one week and see how many YOU can pick out.
Why don't YOU learn how to drive. No one is a PERFECT driver and just because someone is elderly doesn't mean they are bad drivers. Most accidents in the country involve people between 16 and 25. What does that say about elderly drivers? That they are actually more competent than people give them credit for.
