Men with guns, mask and gloves arrested in car

Published: Mon, May 4, 2009 @ 1:25 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Police do not know where three men arrested Sunday were headed, but they do know the men were carrying three loaded handguns, a black mask and gloves.

Brandon Williams, 18, of Ferndale, Brandon Thomas, 19, of Lemans Drive, and Darrell Mason Jr., 19, of Ferndale and Parkcliffe streets were arraigned before Youngstown Municipal Court Judge Robert P. Milich Monday and are being held in the Mahoning County Jail in lieu of bond.

Williams’ bond is set at $25,000. Mason’s bond is set at $15,000 and Thomas’ bond is $27,500, including $2,500 for a misdemeanor traffic violation.

Officers spotted a car driven by Thomas traveling on the south side at high speed. Officers pulled the car over on Woodford Avenue at the intersection of Colfax Street and, according to reports, could see the men passing what appeared to be handguns to a front seat passenger.

Officers, with guns drawn, ordered the men to turn the car off and raise their hands, but a rear passenger, later determined to be Williams, kept moving something on the floor of the car.

Reports say a police dog was called to search the car and officers found marijuana seeds and stems around the floorboard of the car. A gun holster was found in the backseat.

In the glove box, officers found three handguns, one of which had a serial number that had been “tampered with” at some point. In Williams’ pockets, reports said, officers found the mask, gloves and a cell phone with a screen saver of one of the guns found in the glove box.

Reports say Thomas admitted “the one gun” was his, but said he did not want to be charged with everything.

Prosecutors told the court that Thomas and Mason did not have any past criminal history, but Williams has a history of several crimes as a juvenile.

I am sure this trio was not headed to Sesame Street Live, lock them up and throw away the key. Next time YPD won't be so lucky to catch them before the crime.

This is like watching de-evolution at a remarkably accelerated speed. Articles like this are in the paper every day. You'd think, if they were hauling in enough money with drug trade, they'd finance a small research department. Or even set up some penpal accounts with kindred Florida or Texas drug traffickers, to see how it's really done. Avoid making things worse. Like ... don't run drugs with guns. It really doesn't help. Don't stuff it under the seat. Cops will find it. Under the seat is one of the first places they look. Transport it in small loads if you can. A kilo is 1-5 years in jail - the maximum sentences are broken down by grams. Measure it and the risk of transporting it. Find a good middle ground.
And for the love of heaven, don't break the standard traffic laws. Why give a cop a reason to pull you over to begin with?
Before any of you get grouchy about me not supporting the war on drugs, which is a ridiculous financial waste across all branches of the legal system, please remember that like Prohibition, the war on drugs doesn't stand a shot in h-e-double-hockey-sticks of actually working. Where there is a will, there is a way. And we need to face the problem with a more responsible approach that John Wayne would have.

Low bonds so it's no big deal. Since their money making venture was cut short where will their families now get the crack money?

Well Stan, you know where they will get the money! Robbing people going to the corner stores and what not. See, like I said before, some people just don't know how to live right.

YIX2K, you're a d i c k head. What you fail to see is that these three men had three loaded guns on them with masks and gloves as well. What do you think they were on their way to do? Going to the american range for some target practice? The crime that would have followed could have ended with someone being shot or worse yet killed. And of course im not referring to the three men being one of the end results because that would just be one less "thug" piece of trash on the street. Hey next time YPD isn't so "lucky" in catching them and they commit their crime and someone does get hurt.... maybe it will be you or your family. I'll await your response after that happens.

LOL, obviously YIX2K is interviewing to be a drug ring manager since he knows all the secrets to avoid getting caught. I am sure he has already received offers of big bucks to run a huge drug ring operation. Drug arrests will no doubt end in the next few weeks.

Don't no one know what these three men were up to. It's not cool that they were carrying weapons and it's not cool for the media to judge them and not know what's going on.
