New Middletown officer suspended after domestic violence charge

Published: Tue, March 10, 2009 @ 6:00 a.m.

NEW MIDDLETOWN — Village Police Chief Vince D’Egidio said Monday that part-time officer Brent Heffinger has been suspended after a domestic incident Saturday in Springfield Township.

He will remain off the job pending the results of an internal village police department investigation.

D’Egidio said Heffinger was arrested in Springfield on charges of domestic violence as a result of an incident at his mother’s house involving Heffinger and his brother and sister.

Heffinger was on duty at the time. D’Egidio said Heffinger appeared in Struthers Municipal Court on Monday morning but no charges were filed as he and his siblings agreed to seek counseling.

D’Egidio, however, said Heffinger violated numerous police department policies, including being outside the village while on duty. Heffinger has been on the village police force for five years.

Heffinger should never have been hired in the first place.

No charges filed means he'll keep his job after "counseling" and probably get suspended "WITH PAY" for a week. Unbelievable!

Guns must be given up upon a charge of domestic violence misdeameanor or felony it does not matter. Please remove the gun from his hands before next time when far more damage is done.

This is becoming commonplace now days,I knew a girl that dated a state trooper(not in Ohio) and he drank like a fish, smoked more weed than Cheech and Chong put together, and occasionally went upside the poor dummies head.

WOW! Since all of you seem to be so perfect and have never made any mistakes in your life and are so willing to cut someone down before knowing the whole story, maybe you all should be out there protecting and upholding the law!

I don't need to know the entire story. NMVPD obviously thinks something is wrong because they're launching an investigation. And I know Heffinger...that's enough.

I'm surprised this is the first offense that has come to light since he joined the force. I don't claim to be an angel either, but I never took the police oath. Live up to it or get out.

You THINK you know Heffinger. And yes you do need to know the entire story, then maybe you would have some validity to your comments and you wouldn't come off looking like an ignorant fool.
Wouldn't life be so easy if everything was in black and white like your simple mind is.
