Auto crash in Mercer kills two

MERCER, Pa. — An 84-year-old driver and his passenger died in a two-car crash on Mercer-Pulaski Road at Orchard Road in Lackawannock Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The crash happened at 5:25 p.m. Saturday. Dead at the scene were Robert Stumpf, 84, of Orchard Road and Amy K. Stumpf, 44, same address.

Troopers said Stumpf, traveling north on Orchard Road, pulled from a stop sign into the path of another vehicle driven by Jamie Lee Hess, 36, of Stonepile Road, New Wilmington.

Hess, traveling west on Mercer-Pulaski Road, had four passengers in his vehicle. None of them was injured, according to the report.

All involved were wearing seat belts.

The investigation is ongoing.
