Woman accused of stabbing grandmother indicted

No motive has been reported for the attack.
WARREN — Crystal Goodrich, the Leavittsburg woman accused of stabbing her 81-year-old grandmother three times Monday afternoon, has been indicted on charges that could land her in prison for up to 28 years.
Goodrich, 29, of Emert Road, was indicted by a grand jury Wednesday afternoon in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on charges of felonious assault, attempted murder and kidnapping.
She will be arraigned at 1 p.m. today by Judge John M. Stuard in common pleas court.
Police said Goodrich went to her grandmother’s apartment on Ridge Road at 6:30 a.m. Monday and held the woman, Ruth V. Jenkins, at knife point until about noon, when Goodrich’s mother arrived.
At that point, Goodrich told her mother, Cathy Lane, she was going to kill Jenkins, police said. Lane stepped between the two women and kept Goodrich away from Jenkins until police arrived.
But when Lane went to unlock the door to allow a Newton Falls police officer inside, Goodrich stabbed Jenkins twice in the chest and once in the arm.
Jenkins is hospitalized but expected to survive. Goodrich is in Trumbull County Jail, being held on $1 million bond.
Newton Falls Police Chief John Kuivila declined to discuss what evidence police uncovered that would indicate a motive for the attack.
Meanwhile, a neighbor of Goodrich’s on Emert Road said she saw Goodrich just a couple of days ago and is shocked that Goodrich is accused of something like this.
“I wouldn’t have suspected her at all,” said the woman, who declined to give her name.
The woman said Goodrich was divorced about a year ago but had been living with a boyfriend in a house she and Goodrich’s ex-husband had purchased in 2007. The home is a renovated one-story house at the end of a dead-end road.
The house was empty for about six months in 2008 when the couple divorced, but Goodrich, her boyfriend and two children had been living there since sometime in 2008, the neighbor said.
Goodrich graduated from LaBrae High School and the Gordon D. James Career Center, the neighbor said.
Warren Township Police Chief Thomas Rush said there were very few police calls to Goodrich’s house, only very minor incidents, declining to elaborate.
Warren Municipal Court records indicate that Goodrich was convicted of DUI in March after being arrested on the charge by the Ohio State Highway Patrol at about 3 a.m. Dec. 28, 2008, on state Route 5 near Burnett Road, very close to her home.
Her license was suspended for six months, her six-month jail sentence was suspended, and she was ordered to report for a 72-hour program run by the Warren Alternative Sentencing Program in the former Warren City Jail.

Society continues its downward spiral into more hideous crimes. Too many people think nothing of killing their spouses, ex-spouses, their kids, their grandkids, a parent or, yep, even a grandparent. These people lost their moral compass; their only direction is "me first" and "whatever me wants me gets." Just like 2 year olds with little sense of right and wrong. BUT even 2 year olds understand "don't kick, bite, hit your sibling mom, dad, or other adult".
What in the world could an elderly woman have done to "warrant" being stabbed in the chest. Nothing.
I guess this woman never learned "do not stab the people who love you" (duh).
i love that everyone judges without knowing the facts. i've known this woman for years and she is a very good person. yeah she has had problems AS WE ALL HAVE. YOU DONT KNOW WHAT MAY HAVE HAPPENED IN HER LIFE. YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THAT LITTLE OLD WOMAN MAY HAVE DONE DO YOU. how can you judge less you be judged yourself. so let him without sin cast the first stone. not even the perfect soul as christ was willing to cast a stone at a sinner. how can you. and you judge our moral compass.
This is Crystals ex husban. i have been reading ever comment on the case and stayed out of everything till now. via83...you make me sick . I dont know who you are, but i obviously know you if you have known her for years....Crystal had a unique way of making people think she was a perfect angel. But the people that " knew her" saw through it. i urge you to call me and tell me who you are. you want details on why she did this? ill give them too you!
and just to verify, we have been divorced 2 full years. The kids did not live with her, they lived with me. This 'very good person' you speak of had to be begged to get her to see her own kids over the last year.
Hello ex-husband...Im sure you know who I am from the screen name... ( its been a long time sir ) .... I obviously know that she is a sick person and since I have no other contact I just wanted to tell that Im sorry about everything that has happened! I feel so bad for the kiddies! If theres anything I can do.... let me know! I do feel bad however and find it quite disturbing the crap people say when they dont know anything but what they see on TV or read on-line! How can people be so harsh...if it was their child I would bet my last dime they wouldn't be so horrid with the things they had to say! Because of the situation you know my thoughts and feelings to begin with...as I have always said for a few years now, I hope someone can find some way to help her! Take care!!!
Woah wait i was not defending her. and you are correct. ive only spoke to her over the phone since her wedding . and i understand. but my first comment in no means defended her for her actions. i was saying that people who dont know her or you or the family shouldnt say horrable things. What she did was horrable and i know what people can say without talking to both sides. I know the family and her. I said she had issues did i not. I also said we all have issues. I come from a family that the press put out a bunch of horrable things and did not try to get any of our side of the story. I was on the side that people who didnt know me or my family ever was saying my uncle deserved to die. So i was saying if you dont know the SITUATION THEY SHOULD NOT JUDGE!!!! I never ment to offend you and i am will to talk more if you would like.
Much incorrect info, children have been with their father for a year. Have not lived with her.
