Leavittsburg man injured in Canfield motorcycle crash

Published: Wed, June 24, 2009 @ 4:55 p.m.

CANFIELD — A Leavittsburg man is recovering after a motorcycle crash this morning sent him to the hospital.

Phillip Sharp, 31, was westbound on U.S. Route 224 just before 9 a.m., where Ohio State Highway Patrol said he was stopped at the light at the intersection of 224 and Fairgrounds Boulevard.

Police said a car traveling in the same direction and driven by 22-year-old Jace Melick, of Boardman, struck Sharp from behind.

Sharp was thrown from the bike, but because he was wearing a helmet he sustained minor injuries, according to police.

He was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Health Center in Youngstown for treatment. A condition report was not available today.

Melick was cited with failure to maintain an assured clear distance.
