Published: Sun, June 21, 2009 @ 12:00 a.m.

HUBBARD — Joe and Alberta Murtaugh of Woodland Ave. celebrated the 60th anniversary of their wedding at an outdoor dinner on the afternoon of June 11 at the Cortland home of their daughter.

Beverly and Gary Bartholomew hosted the celebration. The couple also have three grandchildren, Mandy Bartholomew of Cortland, Dr. Janine (David) Bradley of Pittsburgh, and Megan Bartholomew of Cortland.

Mrs. Murtaugh had worked as a supervisor in outpatient billing at St. Elizabeth Health Center. She later worked for Radiology Consultants before retiring in 1985. Both are in Youngstown.

Mr. Murtaugh retired in 1988 after 46 years with U.S. Steel in Petroleum, Ohio, where he worked in the “paint house.” He was a sergeant in Infantry Division 6 from 1944-46, serving in the Philippines, and was decorated as a sharpshooter.

The former Alberta Conn and Joe Murtaugh were married June 11, 1949, in the Chapel of Friendly Bells, Youngstown.
