Credit union ATM damaged in effort to steal cash

BOARDMAN — Someone broke into a stand-alone automatic teller machine early this morning, trying to get cash.

Police haven’t determined if the man got any money, but he damaged the machine Seven Seventeen Credit Union machine which is in the lot of Family Dollar near the Overhill Road intersection.

Yellow caution tape cordoned off the machine.

A witness reported seeing a man, aged 18 to 20, wearing black baggy pants, a blue shirt and a blue hat bearing the letter ‘A’ breaking into the machine about 5:30 a.m.

He must have been desperate for crack money. Usually they steal a card and threaten the victim for the PIN number.
