LORDSTOWN — The extended shutdown of the General Motors’ complex here has been made even longer.
GM has added three weeks to this summer’s extra-long shutdown in order to reduce the supply of Chevrolet Cobalts and Pontiac G5s at car dealers.
GM said in April it would close the complex for six weeks instead of the normal two weeks this summer. The shutdown started June 1, and workers were to return July 13.
Jim Graham, president of United Auto Workers Local 1112, said today that workers now are to return Aug. 3.

Obama
How long will the honeymoon(s) last? I use the plural since I can see two problems. First it has always been GM vs UAW. I know that they both supposedly "get it" now but old habits are hard to break.
Next we have the union owning part of the company. What happens when the younger worker starts looking at what would be best for his stock value long term. I think he and old fart are gonna butt heads. Gettlefinger or whatever his name is, is already trying to play down the stock thing cause it could undermine the blind allegiance he has over the rank and file. Could get ugly
Let the lay-off go till after Christmas - they get paid almost the full wage while out for the summer relaxing and then they have the football season. Oh my, who will collect the football bets?
My union brothers get to enjoy their summer off with almost full pay. It doesn't get any better then this.
UnionForever: Where does the money for this summer vacation come from?
It's all Bush's fault lol.
Obama ran on Hope and Change.
Well I do not see how any GM Lordstown worker could be 'hopeful' right now when the 'change' they are getting means no work until August.
