The concert series is made possible by donations from local groups and businesses.
NORTH LIMA —The annual summer concert series at Woodworth Park has an attraction many local folks can appreciate, especially with the current economic slump, said Scott Conway, Beaver Township park administrator.
“Admission is free,” he noted.
“Plus, it’s quality music, in a nice setting, close to home. You can’t beat that,” he said.
The 2009 Music in the Park Concert Series will run weekly June 17 through Aug. 26 at Beaver Township’s Woodworth Park, off East Western Reserve Road, between Market Street and Southern Boulevard in Beaver Township. The concerts are presented from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
Performances presented June 17 through July 15 are in cooperation with and arranged by Local 86-242 American Federation of Musicians.
“We have a mix this year again, something for everyone,” Conway said. “Each year more and more people come out and take advantage of this service that the township provides at no charge to residents or taxpayers.”
Last year, on average, at least 150 people attended each show, Conway said.
The concert series, in its eighth year, is made possible through the contributions and sponsorships of area businesses, groups, organizations and individuals.
A special Thursday evening Independence Day program featuring the Youngstown Area Community Concert Band will be featured at 7 p.m. July 2.
Because seating is limited and the concerts are outdoors, attendees are advised to bring lawn chairs or blankets and to dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather.
