Let’s root for casinos, wherever they may be

EDITOR:

You have to love the Valley’s newest political mouthpiece, David Betras. Here’s a guy ready to start a holy war to keep the casino issue off the ballot because it shuts out the Valley ... for now. Somehow Dave thinks if we keep some poor unemployed inner city resident from getting a job in a Cleveland casino, the world, in this case, Youngstown, will be a better place.

Putting the gambling debate aside, aren’t we all Ohioans? Like rooting for the Buckeyes in football can’t we all be happy for a person in another corner of the state having the opportunity to land a job. Whatever happened to the “greater good”?

It seems Mr. Betras as the leader of the Democratic pack needs to learn how to share. After all, he already has his piece of the pie. We all see the billboards, fancy threads and big office building in the burbs. Can’t someone else get a crumb?

Yeah, if we do get approved for a casino it should be built right in the middle of Y-town, right next to the chevy center. These people already don't have any money, now you want to make it a tourist attraction? Go right ahead! Ought to be interesting to see how much more depressed it can get with a stinky casino here.

With a stinky casino here? Oh, you must mean the thousands of jobs that it would create, more tax revenue and more business for local businesses. You're absolutely right! Im upset I didn't think of that!

Our area is out-of-date. It is no longer what it used to be. People need to move on and gain vision. I am tired of people holding me back from what I like to do. And, our area needs jobs and a business needs customers. I think a casino on Belmont towards the highway would be great. Who is benefiting from not bringing a casino here? If you don't go to bars, then you don't go. If you don't gamble, don't go. When I had a job, I would go often OUT OF STATE to spend my money. I want a job here and spend my money here. For people who do not go to casino's, you would be suprised how happy customer's and employee's look. Give it a try before you say no so fast.
