Ursuline DL Turner still with Ohio St.

But at least one Web site said the All-Ohioan is close to losing his scholarship.

YOUNGSTOWN — Contrary to some reports, Ursuline junior Jamel Turner has not lost his scholarship to Ohio State, sources said Monday.

“His status with Ohio State is the same that it was,” said a source close to the situation.

Turner, an All-Ohio defensive lineman/linebacker, committed to Ohio State in December.

Since then, Turner has had some issues with school attendance and was kicked off the basketball team at midseason. After placing second in the 110-meter hurdles at last year’s state track meet, Turner did not compete in track this spring.

He is still enrolled at Ursuline and attended classes on Monday. Sources admitted there is concern at Ursuline about his behavior, particularly in recent months.

“There are a lot of rumors going around and the vast majority of them are untrue,” said one source.

Duane Long, who covers Ohio State recruiting for the Duane Long Report, reported Sunday that it is unlikely Turner will end up in a Buckeye uniform.

“He has so much work to do in the classroom as well as some other off-field issues so daunting that he may never play college football,” Long wrote.

Turner (6-foot-3, 215 pounds), a two-time All-Ohioan, has 411‚Ñ2 sacks over the past two years, helping the Irish to back-to-back Division V state title games, including a title in December.

In other news, concealed weapon charges against former Irish football player Darrell Mason were dropped recently. Mason and two other men were arrested in early May and charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Mason and two others, driver Brandon Thomas and passenger Brandon Williams, were stopped by police for speeding on May 3. The police found three loaded handguns in the glove box, along with a black mask and gloves in Williams’ pockets. Officers also found marijuana seeds and stems around the floorboard of the car.

Mason, who did not have a criminal history before the arrest, graduated from Ursuline on Sunday and plans to play football at Fort Scott Junior College next season.

I will have to admit that for all the grief that's given to Mooney students at least they appear to have their heads on straighter than the ursuline guys do.
Or at least less of it gets reported.

What is really troubling is that apparently there are no mentors/parents/peers that can get through to these two athletes and make them realize the tremendous opportunity that awaits them if they just act like human beings in our society.
All you have to do is attend class, pass HIGH SCHOOL classes, OBEY THE LAW, and show minimal effort. This is asking too much.

Can you imagine a free ride to OSU to play football and having the real chance to play on Sundays and make MILLIONS and throwing it all away?Sickening.

I hope both players get their heads out of their a**es and realize what is in front of them.

Blame it on the Catholic High School's. These (I have no business in the first place going to either of these schools) under-achievers get a FREE ride and take full advantage of the "feel sorry for the underprivledged youth" mentality of the Diocese. If you can't pay the ante, then go where the rest of us went when our parents couldn't afford to pay the private school tuition; the Public Schools.
