Police charge city man in shooting of siblings

The man was arrested at his Youngstown home.

YOUNGSTOWN — Police have arrested a city man suspected in the shootings of a brother and sister earlier this month.

Cametrius Adams, 32, of Trumbull Court, appeared Thursday before Judge Robert P. Milich in Youngstown Municipal Court for arraignment. Adams, represented by Atty. Jeffrey Limbian, is charged with two counts of felonious assault and one count of attempted murder.

Capt. Kenneth Centorame, Youngstown chief of detectives, said Adams was arrested without incident at his home Wednesday.

Prosecutors told the court that Adams shot a 19-year-old woman several times, then stood over the woman and fired more shots into her. Prosecutors also told the court that Adams has spent a large amount of time in federal prison.

Judge Milich set bond at $1.5 million and ordered Adams, should he be released on bond, to have no contact with the brother and sister he is accused of shooting.

According to police, Americka Brown, 19, of East Lucius, was taken to the trauma center at St. Elizabeth Health Center at 12:40 p.m. July 11 after being shot in the chest and left leg. Police said she was unable to talk at that time because of her wounds.

Her brother, Aaron Wright, 22, also of Lucius, told police he began to run but felt a pain in his legs and then fell. The siblings began to run when at least three people appeared and began shooting. Authorities also said that Brown was able to get on the porch of a home on Lucius before she collapsed from her wounds.

Police said they found .45- caliber and 9 mm caliber shell casings at the scene.

Police arrested Charles Thomas, 20, no address available, on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon at the scene. Police said he was carrying a .380-caliber pistol.
