YOUNGSTOWN — The South Side man accused of shooting a man to death in front of dozens of children at a little league football game is set to go to trial.
Anthony M. Caulton, 27, of East Auburndale Avenue appeared today before Visiting Judge Thomas Curran in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to begin his trial. Caulton is charged with murder in shooting death of Larry D. Jones, 31, of Ravenwood Avenue in 2006.
Caulton is represented by Atty Lynn Maro. Prosecutors handling the case are Dawn Cantalamessa and Mark Hockensmith.
The court spent the entire day questioning potential jurors for the trial. Judge Curran asked the prospective jurors how many remembered the 2006 shooting. More than two-thirds of those in the room acknowledged remembering the incident.
Caulton is accused in the fatal shooting of Jones in front of hundreds of people at a youth football game. Police said Caulton, also known as Anthony Pfeifer, is suspected of shooting Jones at the former South High School football stadium behind Eagle Heights Academy. The crowd attending the game was estimated at between 500 and 800 people.

If he has two names find him guilty twice and kill him twice.
execute him show people we will not let these acts happen in front of our children
It sure did take long enough to bring this case to trial . Will he get off for time served ?
Could we assume that he is innocent until proven guilty?
IF people knew the whole story behind what happened that led up to the shooting, then they would have more sympathy for Anthony! Becuase we all know that it wasn't what he did, they convicted him based on where it happened at, and that's the truth. If it would have happened in the middle of market street, no one would have even really cared, well at least not nearly enough as they did for this. That boy was harassing Anthony for almost six three years and he just tried to bully him at the wrong time! And it just came down to a him or me situatio n and it just so happened that it was him. The hole you try and dig for someone else, is the hole you yourself is gonna fall into!
63 years? wow thats a long time to be harrassed. maybe then it was ok for Anthony to go to a youth football game and empty a clip in his butt. so the way im hearing it MISSANGEL is that he was in the right to murder this man and its ok to settle disputes by homicide?
No bitch, what I 'm saying is that u don't know the whole story a#$%#$e, and I meant to say 3 years, but that is the father of my son and my son was present at the time also, I don't condone what he did, but that other guy thought that he was just going to bully someone or start s$%t whenever he felt like it, his actions had consequences and I'd rather it been him than Anthony! And u can go straight to hell!!! When u judge someone else, just know that God is going to judge u!!!

Killer sentenced to 18 to life
Judge admonishes community to cooperate with police
August 5, 2009
By JOE GORMAN Tribune Chronicle
YOUNGSTOWN - Visiting Judge Thomas Patrick Curran said Tuesday he found it hard to believe hundreds of people watched Anthony Caulton shoot Larry Jones at a pee wee football game in August 2006, yet only two came forward to police.
Speaking as he sentenced 28-year-old Anthony Caulton to 18 years to life in prison for murdering Larry Jones at a game at the former South High School Stadium, Curran said that if people want the police to help them, they must also help the police.
''It's basically a sad comment that at a community event, that those members of the community present would not cooperate with the police,'' Curran said. ''If you're going to have a safe community, it begins with the people who wish to be helped by the police.''
Prosecutors say Caulton chased down the 31-year-old Jones in front of hundreds of people at a youth football game at the stadium on Aug. 19, 2006, shot him several times in front of a group of cheerleaders, turned to leave, then shot him again.
Caulton fled from Youngstown and was captured by U.S. Marshals in Washington state a few months later. Police said they were stymied because only two people came forward out of the hundreds of people who were at the game.
