Bernie deserves better than he got in life and story
EDITOR:
I feel compelled to comment on The Vindicator’s recent story concerning one of our Valley’s favorite son’s, Bernie Kosar. I attended one of our local parochial schools with Bernie for eight years. Even as a young boy, he stood out. He was not only a straight-A student, but a kind and polite boy who we all looked up to as the leader of our class. He possessed something you don’t see very often in children that age — a drive and determination that obviously brought him great success in life until his most recent troubles.
Let’s not forget that success in reaction to The Vindicator’s unflattering story that portrayed Bernie as an eccentric, physically deteriorated, ex-NFL quarterback. When I read that he grew up to be a generous, giving man who willingly gave away large amounts of money, I was not surprised.
I hope that he is able to find the inner strength to overcome all of the challenges he is currently facing and wish him the best.

oh boo hoo ! he blew it away on stupid stuff
and favourite son? gimme a break! he was a lousy qb !
he got a free ride thru college and it shows he never went to any classes or he would have at least some business sense!
stupid is as stupid does...
I agree that Bernie Kosar does carry himself in a standup way. I was saddened to hear he had to file b/c I thought he had his act together. But the Valley doesnt chastise GM for filing, so I wont get on Bernie too much. Its a matter of how he carries himself through this time that counts the most.
That article last week wasn't even written by the Vindy. Dan LeBatard from the Miami Herald wrote it, and the Vindy ran it. They just published it as an opinion that is out there, they did nothing wrong.
I think her comments were to reflect on what kind of a young man Bernie was, not a slap against the vindicator. I think a few of you are missing the point. Have we all not faltered at some point in our life due to bad choices? It is easy to sit and criticize others and we judge too quickly. Kudos to the fellow classmate who saw fit to express her fond memories. the easy route is to sit back and do nothing, say nothing. I admire her kindness and praise her for taking the time to do something so heartfelt. Good luck Mr Kosar.
