Boy, 9, other juveniles and adult arrested in Campbell break-ins
CAMPBELL — An adult and five juveniles have been charged in two break-ins in the past six days.
Campbell police reported that Sentell D. Wright, 18, of Wilson Avenue has been charged with receiving stolen property and contributing to the delinquency of minors. The minors involved include a 9-year-old, a 13-year-old, a 15-year-old and two 17-year-olds.
The 9-, 13- and 15-year-olds are brothers, said Sgt. John Gulu of the Campbell Police Department. They live on Coitsville Road, according to police reports.
Gulu said Wright’s brother is the boys’ stepfather.
The first break-in occurred around 7:35 p.m. Saturday at a home on Blossom Avenue, reports say.
Gulu, who was off-duty at the time, saw one of the boys walking up Crimson Circle and knew he was not from the neighborhood, the report says.
It was the 9-year-old, the reports indicate, and he was carrying a bulky bedsheet.
When Gulu tried to approach the boy, he ran away. Gulu called the dispatch, reports say.
Gulu saw one of the 17-year-olds trying to push a motor scooter from the shed at the Blossom Avenue house. He saw that a rear window was open at the house, and the house had been ransacked.
Gulu saw the other 17-year-old, who was pulling a wagon, and the 13-year-old, who was carrying a shopping bag, walking on Blossom. He told them to stop, but they ran through a backyard, reports say.
Police found the wagon and shopping bag hidden in nearby woods. When police rounded up the boys, the nine-year-old told them where to find the bedsheet in the woods. The sheet contained a PlayStation 3 and games.
The homeowner arrived then and identified all of his belongings, which included cash and jewelry.
While the boys were being taken to the police station, they emptied more jewelry out of their pockets and tried to kick it under the front seat in the cruiser, the report said.
The 9-year-old was released to his mother, and the other three were taken to the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center.
They are charged with burglary, possession of criminal tools and tampering with evidence. One of the 17-year-olds is also charged with possession of drugs. Police said they found a marijuana cigarette on him.
Wright was charged with receiving stolen property Sunday when police were called because he and another man were spotted in the same neighborhood in people’s backyards.
Police found a two-way radio and jewelry on him, and he said he’d found it in the woods, the reports say. The Blossom Avenue homeowner identified the items as his.
Wright was charged with contributing to delinquency over an attempted burglary Tuesday, when a witness identified him as one of three people running from a residence on Coitsville Road where a garage door had been kicked in.
A witness told police he saw three boys run to the Coitsville Road house where the brothers live. The witness identified the 15-year-old brother from the Coitsville Road house as another one of the three he saw running from the garage door. The 15-year-old was charged with breaking and entering and taken to the Juvenile Justice Center.
Wright was arraigned Tuesday on the receiving-stolen-property charge and released on $2,500 bond. He was in the Campbell jail awaiting his arraignment on the contributing-to-delinquency charge Thursday. That arraignment was set for this morning.
Campbell police also said they arrested a fugitive at the brothers’ Coitsville road home Thursday.
Gulu said Jerbrail Grhim, 19, was arrested by police and U.S. Marshals at noon.
Grhim was wanted by Youngstown police in the brutal beating of a baby. The child, of Lucius Avenue, was beaten with a wire coat hanger, punched and held under water in a bathtub July 17.

I do not think he would ever, ever think about going and robbing some one for somthing that i may not be able to buy for him. I say"no" and he throws a little fit and then gets over it. This child was obveiously tought how to do this. And i can bet they were not taking this stuff all for themselves. I am sure they were going to sale these items for the cash. I fully blame this nine yearolds mother. Why would she even allow this child to be with seventeen year olds. He should have been at home with her riding his bike or watching cartoons.
I'm sorry but i do not believe the tax payers should be to blame because these people are not given enough welfare. Go get a job and collect your welfare if needed and there should be no reason these people are going without. All of these people that committed this crime should be severly punished. I also believe the nine year old should have some kind of punishment. Some one has to show this child if his mother is not right from wrong and there are consequences for every action. Wether he knew it was right or wrong, he will now know that it was wrong. If my son ever stold anything from anyone even a toy from a friends trust me he would know he did somthing wrong. All partys are to blame.

Parent [s] I think we seriously need to crackdown on the minors start arresting parent [s] or guardian [s]. Start slamming them with some thing like a 1,000 fine and 3 in jail as a minimum at least if they are under 13 y.o
after that they make jails.
Of course that would be to cruel to hold a parent accountable and ship their kid off for some correction.

PUNISH THE PARENTS AND MAKE STRICTER JUVENILE LAWS ! stick them on a raft bullcrap ? stick you on a raft ! to see these kids in school getting the structure, guidance and compasion they need, is amazing to witness their reaction. when they leave those doors, it's anybodys guess what they endure. i know when i was little and my head hit that pillow my heart was content and full of love, not full of anxiety that if i close my eyes, will i wake up in the morning ? Their tactics are to play to peoples' emotions by having them fell sorry for these lazy spongers and their illegitimate children, rather than to reason which would show that the only way out of poverty is a lot of hard work. Shame on that little girl's parents, teaching her to give away treasury funds to those who don't produce any useful output.

The conservatives promote this idealistic, pansy idea that every life is worth something, and every life should be saved. Bull! If a kid is going to be born into poverty and end up a criminal, let the momma get rid of him (usually it is males who end up like this) before society has to. Then there are the liberals. They are wise enough to let momma get rid of the future convict, but then the liberals want to provide Medicaid, welfare, subsidized housing, and easy juvenile punishments. The liberals make sure that the kids who don't end up in the penitentiary just have kids of their own to commit crimes and bleed the system.
I'll tell you what we need to do. Let's sterilize and provide abortions for these welfare abusers so they don't give birth to more garbage abusing the system. Get rid of welfare so the parents actually have to be somewhere in the morning instead of laying around, smoking dope and making babies. And get rid of the sympathetic juvenile justice system. Don't even try to tell me that a 9 year old doesn't know that it is wrong to break into someone's house. Throw every one of the thugs into the big house. At this point they are a lost cause, anyway.

I'm sorry, but I repeatedly tell my boys "if it doesn't belong to you, don't touch it"! It's just something you teach your kids so are we to believe because the mom is a "single parent" the kid doesn't know right from wrong, so I'm guessing too now the 9 year old has some sort of "disability" since he can't learn anything obviously from his other siblings! Give me a break. Race, income level...none of that matters...it's about teaching your kids right from from wrong and discipline. There is still resentment toward them for doing this to this very day. Maybe the people of Campbell are racist because they were raised that way and the races they don't like haven't given them a reason to not think the things they do. by your argument you should feel just as bad for them as you should for the kids that raise themselves. The "gang" problem with youth is out of hand in larger cities. In the larger cities, the gang members are also armed and not afraid to kill or die. They come into the home invasion with guns blazing. You small town folks have not experienced that type of behavior and I hope you dont kill one of these "teens" so the next time they will be armed as well.
Detroit is not a "large" market. Try going to New York or Los Angeles and speak to some of the people there about crime. We need jobs and optional things for teens to do. The unemployment rate in the Y-Town, Campbell, Boardman is what-30%? Soon, it will be more than just teens that you will have to worry about. It would be fine to send an army in to deal with all of the trash and scum that needs to be liquidated. Criminal gangs should be recognized as a paramilitary threat, and dealt with accordingly. More abortions is an excellent means to control the future problems. I have a friend on the south side, retired military, who patrols his house with an AR-15. The most practical means for a homeowner to defend themselves against home invaders is to own a be proficient with firearms. I personally recommend that everyone who is not otherwise prohibited by law from owning a gun should buy an assault rifle. That way when your home is invaded by the scum that hometownhero loves so much, you will be able to dispatch them. Don't worry about going to prison, a jury around here would aquit you if you did shoot a home invader, teen or no teen. New York and LA have restrictive firearms laws, and as a result the thugs have run wild. Hometownhero, tell your liberal socialist bosses that their left-wing, communist, anti-gun philosophies will never achieve widespread acceptance in this market area.

If the government would draft all of these 16 and 17 year old kids, and unemployed 18-25 year olds; train them, and use them for any valid military purpose then there would be a lot less crime and homes being invaded. If the persons being drafted had been raised to that age on public monies, i.e. welfare and food stamps, then that be getting a return on an investment. If losses were high, then that would justify allowing every women to have as many kids as she wanted irregardless of her financial and intellectual ability. The government should draft all of these kids and thugs and use them for any purpose.

Send the whole lot of them to the middle of the ocean and leave them on a tiny raft. If they can make it back then they have earned the right to sit in jail for the rest of their lives. We are not paying enough taxes and there is not enough money to fund these families so they turn to stealing. They cannot afford that Playstation 3 on their wages alone so they are forced, by a society of people who do not "understand" their struggles, to steal from others. They cannot get a job like the rest of us because they are underprivileged and society has not given them enough help.
We should not be scorning these "misunderstood" children, but rather embracing them and making sure the single mother has even more help from the state. They only need a good lecture and a warm hug. They will change.
You people who would call these children a bunch of "animals" just do not understand how our society has forced these children to act this way.
I would like to see the children taken on vacation at the state's expense. They should also be given a bigger home and more subsidized programs because, after all, it's our fault they are like this.

Then we would not have the "excess" funds to buy Playstations and our houses would not be ransacked by the unfortunate. I hope our new President corrects this soon. Chrismas is coming and I'm getting tired of buying new Playstations every year.
I feel sorry for the children. They are the victims of BAD PARENTING, plain and simple. Being poor has little to do with how these kids act; A great example of this is the childhood of Justice Clarence Thomas. He grew up in the deep South, his house had no running water or indoor toilet, and his parents were illiterate. His father would take him to the library every day because he wanted his son to be educated and not have to struggle. These Youngstown kids have it way better, an absence of life's basic necessities is not an issue. What good is free rent if no one bothers to teach the kids how not to live like pigs? What good are food stamps when there's no one there to make nutritious meals with them? (and that is a HUGE part of why inner city kids struggle academically-their parents never feed them. A former neighbor of ours teaches kindergarten at Eagle Heights, and her experiences with this are truly sickening.) Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying these juveniles shouldn't be disciplined for their actions. In fact, I don't think they will be disciplined harshly enough, but the state doesn't have the money or manpower to make up for the discipline they should have been getting from their PARENTS all along. All the same, these kids really are the victims, and I hope some of them can turn their lives around and get a second chance.

I’m paying enough taxes to help these people stay on welfare! And society doesn’t give them enough help? PLEASE. These people are catered to! They make a career in living off of the government look ideal and glamorous. It’s easy to be poor. And an easy way out is just what these people are looking for.
I don't have children of my own, but my parents obviously do. I NEVER behaved like these children. Do you know why -- because I had parents that cared about me and my future. They actually spent time with me while I was growing up and they provided for me. They helped me with my homework, they encouraged me to become the best that I could be, they taught me lessons and responsibilities, and they loved me. They did everything they possibly could because they weren't selfish.
And my parents didn’t come from “well-to-do families in Canfield or Poland.” They came straight from the city of Youngstown. They were quite young and didn't have much money when they started out. With all that taken into consideration, they still managed to be very good parents.
So I think I’ve established that it comes down to parenting. I mean, don’t get me wrong – I feel bad for these kids, but I’m not their parent. Society isn’t their parent either. There are tons of parents out there that are capable of being genuinely good parents who are just as poor but still maintain values.

The entrepreneurial spirit of the culture is alive and well . What is truly amazing here is the fact that at the age of nine this boy knows what he wants and has achieved his goal of acquiring it . Too bad the law took it from him . My bets are that he wont give up and will keep trying until he achieves success or gets a lifetime of free room and board . His parents and associates have taught him well .
For thoes that think that this the parents fault, that the kids upbringing is the reason why they did what they did are stupid. I remember an incident when my now 17 year old was in middle school. Two kids in school one's word against the others, and a mother saying "I know my child" what a crock. All that I could say is that I hope my child didn't do what they said. My son is a perfecy gem at home, but when he crosses that threshold to enter the outside world, I don't know what goes on. I just hope that he is strong enough not to let anyone lure him into doing something wrong. I work two jobs, but am a single mom, I can't afford everything some kids get handed to them, but I hope that my son will give enough time to get the things he wants. We forget that at one time we were teenagers, young adults, and the weight of the world was at our heels. I know everyone has made bad judgement calls in life, maybe not so major, but even being untruthful about something. We as adults need to try and help these children because the government to our right to disipline our children away from us and I'm not talking about abuse either, so I'ts hard to control them when our control is gone. You have elementary children they will call the police and charge them with domestic violence or mental abuse for yelling at them. What the heck is that for a parent to deal with. They just simply let them go by the way side and hope they don't end up dead. We have our different types of bad kids. Suburbs have children racing the cars mom and dad gave them, drinking and poping pills, driving in fields playing football with cars. Wrong is wrong and bad is bad. Some people can't pay lawyers to get their kids out of trouble, thats why we hear about it on the news. Why people take pride in calling people animals and other words, I love to be a fly on the wall in you lives.

I read the comments regarding the dairy queen/childrens porn/dope selling in Canfield?, I belive it was and there wasn't a word about ammo, shoting anyone dead. Now this person was selling your kids weed, taken dirty pics and videos of them, and luring them with ice cream and all that it focused on is the goings on of children that need help in understanding that crime in not an answer. Why don't thoes that want the streets back the way it was, mentor or try to give direction to these kids. Now as for the guy that beat on the baby, who cares, he is of an age that he is just lost. The others may be able to be helped. I would love for my kids to be able to walk the street without being a target for idiots and pedifiles. So, start some kind of teen workshops or what ever, because not matter the race of the child, there are things goinig on in our society that we as adults/parents need to get some kind of handle on.

It is up to the parents to decide if they will throw up their hands and turn their kids loose, if they will blame their failure as a parent on whatever circumstance gets them the most political and social sympathy (Oh what was I to do? I'm just a single parent!) OR they can rise above all the low class bullsh*t their culture perpetuates and create a nurturing, functional, stable home. Every child deserves at least that. There is NO excuse that is good enough to justify the actions of the parents involved in this story.
If a 9 year old is engaging in this type of criminal behavior, he or she has learned how to do that. It's sickening really. It's definitely not the child's fault at this age.

You would assume at that a child of that age would know better because you would also assume that the child's parents would have taught them good values and morals from an early age. Clearly, these parents are not good parents and did not instill these values into their children. Ultimately, the parents are to blame.
Now that we are in agreement that these situations with children are directly related to failures of their parents, how can "society", (us, we), make changes that will affect and or limit the ability of people to reproduce when they have not demonstrated the properties necessary to provide proper parental guidance?
Limiting someone's right to reproduce is not something I'd ever want to see happen. Period. It 's what the Nazis did. I don't think adopting the policies of the Nazi party is a wise decision. The key is to catch people before they become terrible parents. What we have is a subgroup of people fro a variety of classes, races, etc. that lack the skills to A) parent their children to become successful or B) recognize the consequences of their actions. These are both cyclical problems. They repeat throughout generations.
The key is to A) admit the problem exists B) define the problem C) seek solutions that are in the best interest of everyone involved. Limiting reproductive rights probably doesn't fit these criteria.
A nine year old child has a basic grasp of what is right and wrong, but when someone older, especially a member of the family, turns the idea of right and wrong on its head, you can't expect that child to see the errors of that decision. Or perhaps the idea of right and wrong, which primarily comes from your immediate surroundings (family, home, neighborhood) is skewed. If someone you love and trust is telling you to do something and you're young, you're going to do it and emulate it. I think passing a serious sentence/punishment on to a nine year old is missing the point entirely.
Limiting one's right to reproduce would be fine if it is done purely on economic terms, and excluding race, religion, color, or national origin. It should be a felony to have more kids while already on welfare or social security. I believe people should be allowed to have as many kids as they can afford to raise not requiring any public subsidy in the form social programs.

Nearly all problems in this entire society can be traced to liberals using our hard-earned tax monies and deficit spending to subsidize lowlife families who had no business having children in the first place. It is a privilege to have a family, not a right. There is no constitutional amendment guaranteeing the right to procreate; ask any correctional institute inmate if he/she has the "right" to have children while in custody. By allowing these lowlifes to externalize their costs onto others, we are creating the "entitlement mentality" that most of these poverty families have. I do not feel sorry in the least for these people no matter what propaganda any "liberal artist" disseminates.
Perhaps the Government could devise some sort of "Reproduction License" and collect fees enough to pull the economy out of the recession!
For me it's not about being liberal or conservative, or spreading propaganda. Really, think about what you are advocating. Restricting human reproduction violates human rights period. If it's something that you feel needs addressed in the constitution to make it a right, then it says a lot about your way of thinking.
Human reproduction has been restricted in the past, particularly regarding the insane. It is not a violation of human rights. If there is no constitutional amendment guaranteeing a particular right, then no right exists. It's just that the liberals have discarded any sense of responsibility regarding individual actions. If a person can get society to pay the cost of raising their family, the liberals know that person will vote to elect more liberals, and then they'll be able to vote themselves appropriations from the treasury. The only real "human rights" are taxes and death.
This is a case of the merits of abortion. If these criminals were aborted before they were born, all of us would be in better shape. The conservatives want to save the life of a child that will only be born into poverty and take up a life of crime. Then society is responsible for providing them a jail cell the rest of their lives. This is one thing the liberals have right. If the mother doesn't want a baby, let her get rid of it. This article is an example of the trash that is born when that doesn't happen.

Planned Parenthood has done society a great favor by helping to reduce the number of children born into "public assistance." They have saved us tens of millions of dollars in welfare, food stamps, and section 8 housing vouchers.

They should provide them free sterilization in lieu of a prison sentence. One of my friends in Canfield suggested that mandatory sterilizations would be favorable for abusers of the welfare system.

When the time comes, I'd like to have children. I'd actually like to have three, ideally, but I'll take whatever God gives me. But, why should people like me, who want to wait until they are financially stable and responsible to have kids, be punished and limited to only having one or two children?
