Baby critical after severe beating

Published: Fri, July 17, 2009 @ 11:54 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — A South Side toddler is in critical condition in Akron Children’s Hospital after being severely beaten this evening.

The child, of Lucius Avenue, was reportedly assaulted with a wire coat hanger by an unrelated adult male. The child was also punched several times and held under water in a bathtub.

A family friend said the child was born in February 2008 and the alleged suspect had met the child’s mother two weeks ago. The friend said the child remains on life support with his mother and grandmother at his bedside and is not expected to survive.

Youngstown police had no other information and are investigating the matter.

The suspect faces possible charges of child endangerment.

Child endangerment? How about attempted murder?

Lucius avenue. Now why do I keep hearing that name. I just can't put my finger on it.

That innocent child won't be given justice by the courts. I hope justice finds the savage before he goes to court and agrees to some plea deal. An eye for an eye.

I know that every mother loves her child, but our young mothers must think harder before they lay. She only met/dated this man for 2 weeks. Why would you leave your child with him? He is a complete stranger to this child. The man should burn in "Hell", but the mother's conscious should be eating her up.

Do you have a heart at all? This child is going to die and a mother has to bury her baby and you are talking about healthcare? What kind of person are you? Did you ask about Sanford's romping around on taxpayers dollars, or Star spending millions on Clinton's affair, on taxpayers dollars? I mean what does that have to do with a mother grieving about her child? Read up on your stats, there are just as many white rich dads that leave their kids as poor black men do. So what, if the biological father isn't around, does that give this man the right to do that, no. So what if taxpayers have to come out some cash for some people's healthcare, we are paying for a bogus war that has cost trillions......at least heatlhcare is something that is needed.....Did we, do we need this war?

nane6, the reason she was hooked up with this guy in the first place was that she needed to be serviced. She needed another kid so she could get more money from the state. As the phrase goes, "it is the culture"

This isn't the place for social commentary on lifestyles and who's paying for what. We should all be outraged and saddened that this innocent child was slaughtered. There should be a special circle of Hell for monsters like this. He should get the death penalty. There's no "rehabilitating" something that is non human.

"The suspect faces possible charges of child endangerment."

How about a murder charge if the child dies ?

What is wrong with people theses days? I am a mother of 3 wonderful girls and I could never imagine hurting them or standing by while someone else does. People who abuse their children should be neutered and put in a chamber and tortured over and over just how they hurt their children! What about the people who stand by and let these things go on? What about CSB & POLICE? child abuse and neglect need to be taken more seriously. The world today is too quick to turn a blind eye rather than do something and stand up for the innocent and those who need help. And why is it that when a woman goes to the police for help to get protection against a someone that she needs proof of physical abuse? and why does CSB talk to the parents being accused of a wrong and just take their word for it? Y not ask the children, grandparents, neighbors, teachers, someone had to see something wrong before a child is almost murdered!!! I am strongly considering going for a job at CSB now so I can help save these poor defenseless children. LOVE THEM DON'T BEAT THEM!!!!!

This makes me sick! Why didn't she give this baby to a beautiful home that would love and take care of this child. He does deserve to get beat with a coat hanger and much more and then drown him until he dies.

Listen to you people that talk about prison and punishment for a young woman whoes child is about to go to glory, I personaly know of a white woman who just birthed he 9th child by a white male whoes kids a with CSB right now. As long as she gets parenting classed all thoes babies are going back to thoes irresponsible parents with no strings, if that isn't child endangement I don't know what is

We don't care whether the parents are are white, brown, yellow, black, purple, or green. If this child dies the dirtbag should be tried for first degree murder and the useless mother should be tried as an accessory.

Here's my opinion. Everyone has jumped and judged this story before all the details are out. I am not defending the mother but taking another point of view at this. What if the mother was being abused by this guy just as well as the child and because she is grown and the child is a child and has less ability to defend itself, was hurt more severely and is on life support. I have 3 beautiful kids and would severely hurt someone if they would ever hurt my child at any level. I wouldn't even question the person cause there is no excuse.
As far as this guy, I think he needs to be tortured just like he did this little innocent child and then left to die.

dis44471, sounds like you are trying to formulate the mothers defense when she gets prosecuted. I know of two people that do not believe that your version of what happened is true. One would be me and the other would be you!!!!!

The "mom" needs to have any all children removed from her custody until she can value her babies before any man!! Too many women just have to have a man !!! What a pathetic shame NOW she is at her baby's side at the hospital !!!!! Are you kidding me...a little late to show she cares. What moron would bring a man she met TWO weeks ago around her baby!!! She should be neutered!!! And then charged with a crime!!!

this is my cousin. i feel sad for the mother. the friend don't know how long they knew each other. it's kinda the mother fault for leaving her son with him anyway. my family is sad for him cause he going to jail. so befor you say anything its not your promble so get over it. and just don't make the same mistake. and if she really knew him that well than she would have know he had issues. also our family tell the truth most of the time so don't go pointing fingers at someone you hardly know. he lost his brother not to long ago cause someone killed him. so yes his life is f*cked up rite now. but who can say thiers not i sure can but i learn from my mistakes so i won't make the same one twices. thats just how life goes. i'm not saying he made the rite choice. who knew went on in that house what if one of the kids did it im not saying they did but what if they did.it not like she had cameras all around the house. the kids could have lied. they was probably jealous. you will never know.

I don't care how crappy of a mother she is that doesn't give anyone the right to hurt let alone brutally beat a child. If this dude had issues he should have been in the psych ward. Instead this helpless child is fighting for his life. It's not her fault that this dude is messed up in the head and how exactly would she know anyway. And I'm certain that this punk did this...the Y-Town PD wouldn't publicly name a suspect without viable evidence.

NewsGeek26, whether the mother 'deserved it' or not is irrelevant; she's not the one in critical condition for her mistake. Not only does her child get to pay for her poor relationship decisions, she left her child in a dangerous situation, and that is the definition of neglect.

Question for the thread, I was born and raised in Youngstown, left in 1984 to join the military and after retirement moved to Texas. Question is, reading some of these posts, are any of the schools still open in Youngstown or are most of the people self/tv taught on how to speak, read, write??

yix2k your very right and I agree with you 100%. That poor child is suffering for the parents mistakes. The mom for leaving her with that guy and for the father who clearly isn't in the picture at all. It's just sad that you really can't trust anyone anymore. People leave their children with people that they don't know all the time...babysitters for example. Who would think that a person is capable of doing something so horrible to an innocent helpless child. But then again that happens all the time too. So sad....

This is a sad story. My husband is one of the officers on the case. This monster will be cought, trust me it is already in the works..... Hopefully our justice system will not let this child down. This man should be charged with attempted murder. The mother will not be charged with anything, but i hope this is a lessoned learned to her. You just do not leave your kids with anyone no matter how long you have known them. I have two kids and if they are left with a sitter it is their grandparents and aunt only, period. I do agree if this mother did know this man well enough to let him in her home and around her child, she had to of known he had issues and i personally do blame her for leaving that child with this man. From the posts it sounds like the baby is going to make it Thank God, the sad thing is i do not think this will be the last time this child is put into danger.

Maybe the "mom" won't becharged with a crime, although child endangerment comes to mind, some investigation should be done to determine if the "mom" should have custady and be receiving the financial rewards thatshe may or may not be receiving from anywhere.

My opinions on the person who committed this crime are too violent to post...... So instead I'll say something more positive- Is there a place where people can send this child a gift? Also, if the child is being cared for by *responsible* family members, is there a way to send them donations/support/etc?
