U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Niles

YOUNGSTOWN — The money to U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan’s campaign apparently can’t come in fast enough.

Just as he did during the year’s first quarter, Ryan spent more money in the second quarter — April, May and June — than he raised, according to campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Also, among the five U.S. House members who represent the Mahoning and Shenango valleys, Ryan of Niles, D-17th, is the only one to spend more than he raised during the year’s second quarter.

Ryan raised $111,109.97 and spent $132,986.54 between April and June.

Because his campaign had $235,070.77 going into April, Ryan had $213,194.20 in the fund as of June 30.

Ryan’s district includes portions of Mahoning, Trumbull, Portage and Summit counties. Except for two political action committees in Akron, which contributed a combined $4,000, none of the money raised by Ryan’s committee in the year’s second quarter came from individuals or groups in his district.

Ryan’s biggest expense was a $30,000 contribution to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee on May 26. His campaign also gave $7,000 to Gov. Ted Strickland’s campaign committee.

Would love to know how he spends his time and his campaign money. Something just doesn't seem right with this guy. He'll never have to worry about keeping his job, unless he pulls a Traficant. What's he done for us? Someone (Vindy ?) should do some investigative reporting. Just a gut feeling, no smoke that I've seen.
