I see our Gov. Strickland is having problems getting the Ohio operating budget to balance. I have a suggestion: Why doesn’t he play “private enterprise” and cut. He could start with a 5 percent to 15 percent compensation cut for all state employees and then require a 20-to-25 percent contribution to their health care.
I would guess if these were invoked, the budget would be balanced and fewer than 5 percent of the employees would leave their jobs.

Excellent editorial. We appreciate the public sectors contributions to those in the private sector. However, we pay their salaries and benefits and they are ultimately accountabile to the public. Government employees need to be realistic. The days of public complacency is over. Public sectors "may" have given up salaries for larger retirement contribution benefits or may have had zero contributions, co-pays or deductibles; but it is now over. Just look at the public sector for things to come sooner rather than later. We in the public will now demand our tax dollars are used wisely. Yes, lets play "private enterprise". Elected representatives need to take heed.
I wish we had Voinovich back as governor.
