HANOVERTON — A “tea party” to protest the impact President Barack Obama and Congress are having on the national economy is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday outside the Spread Eagle Tavern.
The Hanoverton restaurant at 10150 Plymouth St. is owned by Columbiana County Republican Chairman Dave Johnson.
Johnson will speak at the event as wills David Zanotti of the American Policy Round Table, a conservative public policy group; Ohio House Minority Leader William Batchelder; Bob Frederick, who recently lost his Chrysler affiliation for his Frederick Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep vehicle dealership in Boardman; and William E. Murray, chairman, president and chief executive officer for Murray Energy Corp., a coal operator.
Tea parties are designed as a protest to the federal government’s bailout of various companies using tax dollars. “Tea” stands for “taxed enough already.” There are more than 1,300 “tea party” events scheduled nationwide for the July 4 weekend.

What a bunch of freaks I will never go the Spread eagle again . I hope these freaks will keep your restaurant going
Regardless of personal opinion on the subject, calling people who are exercising their constitutional right to protest in a peaceful manner behind closed doors and vent frustration with what they believe to be poor leadership by the people in D.C. a bunch of freaks is quite humorous. It is a direct reflection on your lack of the required amount of firing synapses to effectively contribute to society.
You have several American car dealers who lost their jobs and employees of the coal industry who will be facing higher taxes and more job loss themselves and they are freaks for expressing disdain for the way things are?
Perhaps we are not taxed enough, or perhaps you do not pay taxes or perhaps you have been lobotimized. All logical conclusions I feel.
Hope for the valley? Perhaps the biggest misnomer on this website.
Nothing wrong at all at complaining about taxes. That's awesome and we need more of that!
That said, the Tea Parties seem to just be a cauldron of angry conservatives stewing in their own juices. We're about to bulldoze our libraries to keep people like this from going moonbat crazy,
hope4thevalley, I am sure the Spread Eagle will not miss a scumbag like you. Do you like higher taxes or only if others are paying them.
Explain what your moniker means, what exactly are you hoping for and how do you expect to achieve it. Obviously it hasn't worked yet!
How come there is never a tea party against corporate welfare? Or deregulation (which actually got us into this mess)? I didn't see these people in the streets when Bush drove the deficit to new highs. When you look at the people who get the tax hikes (top income earners making over 200,000 a year) you'll see that most of these folks don't make anywhere near that amount.
Tea parties are fine but will the momentum be lost at election time? Far too many people complain about taxes but don't vote out those who put the taxes in place. Politicians bank on the poor memories and complacency of the people.
Y-town Boy - you make good points in all seriousness. No one was complaining when the deficit was rising and the financial sector had free reigns to do whatever they pleased. People should have been protesting then as well.
You will see, though, that all taxpayers will see an increase in taxes in one form or another, not just income tax. It is the only way D.C. knows how to create revenue.
Doc Gonzo is right...we will see back door tax increases that will affect all of us. How else are we going to pay for all this uncontrolled spending? My fear is, are we willing to to pay for this through higher costs for food, drinks, gasoline and give up a portion of our retirement benefits?
Hanoverton! Man you could buy the whole place for 5000 bucks. They didnt protest when the free money came in for appalacian relief. Its not about taxes--its about redneckery.
I really have trouble understanding how anyone could find fault in individuals opposing tax hikes. Do you like people taking your money and blowing it? Does money come that easy to you, or is it that you don't pay much taxes and don't care about others financial concerns that have to?
If you use electricity, your taxes are going up (alot). If you buy stuff, your taxes are going up. If you earn capital gains, your taxes are going up. If you work, your taxes are going waaaayyyy up (Income and social security and health benefits).
Below is a link of upcoming tax increases:

I fully support the TEA Party protestors attempts to encourage government to be fiscally responsible. Maybe the reason that TEA parties are occuring now and not during W's term is that he cut taxes, instead of radically raising them. Do those that oppose the TEA parties favor fiscal irresponsiblity?
Who is William E. Murray? I know of a Robert E. Murray who owns a Murray Energy Corporation that has had numerous safety violations and had a mine collapse in Utah killing 6 people. Are they the same guy?

When one person stands in traffic he will get run over.
When 10 people stand in traffic cars will honk and try to drive around them.
When a hundred people stand in traffic, traffic stops till they move.
These people not out there about TAXES and you know it . We all know what it is about . So call me whatever you like but be honest what these tea parties are about . If you think it is about taxes I have a Bridge to sell you.
hope4the valley,
I've not attended a TEA party, but I want to, and I fully support their efforts. For me, this movement represents Americans expressing their concerns about the following issues:
1. Massive tax increases planned by the DNC fiat.
2. Government spending that far exceeds the irresponsible and excessive spending of the Bush 43 administration.
3. The transfer of wealth and power from the subjects to the rulers.
The lefties (Janine Garafalo, et al) want you to believe that this is about racism. I am not a racist. Others I know, including many minorities, that support the TEA party movement are not racists.
Open your mind. The world and mankind is not as dark as the libs will lead you to believe.
hope4thevalley:
"These people not out there about TAXES and you know it . We all know what it is about ."
So what is it all about ? Higher taxes are good for the Valley then ? Not supporting massive tax increases make one a redneck ?
Still waiting to hear what these tea parties are "really about" from hope4thevalley. Fact is, many people were already complaining about the fiscal policies of Bush way before now. It is just that Obama is so over the top with our government spending and projected deficits.
My husband and I are not rednecks but if being one could stop the madness in Washington then I will become one. We attended this tea party. There were people there who talked with one another (unlike in our neighborhoods) about civic responsibility and about the direction this great country of ours is headed in. People shared their anger (yes we are angry!). We want a sense of what we can do to preserve our nation and our freedoms. We don't want government intrusion into our lives and want to stand for something! People in this country are angry and frightened about our lack of representation by our congress. We have to watch every penny we spend just to keep food on our tables while Washington "ELITES" just KEEP ON SPENDING.We just want to stop the madness. I love my country and the right I have to assemble with like minded citizens.
Why the name calling? Every time I hear the rebuttal of our argument against tyranny I have to hear what George Bush did. I am not a Democrat or a Republican. George Bush was not perfect either. I accept that but why go back to that argument? We need to move forward to stop what is in front of us. Our nation is a Christian nation, founded on the rights endowed to us by our Creator. This I believe. I also believe that if we turn our backs on him then He will turn his back on us.
Don't you see?
Saddad, You don't need 5,000 Bucks for Hanoverton ! Just join the Masons and have your wife join the Eastern Star. Oh I forgot the Sandy Valley click is gone. They didn't want Hanoverton either ! Saddad we may need the money.
To all the naysayers about the tea parties,
Do some research and stop playing partisan games. People were just as upset with the republicans as they were with the democrats however its now that they want to strap a GPS to your car to tax you by the mile, its now that they want to tax farmers for cow farts, its now that you have people talking about another stimulus when they just don't seem to get keynesian economics is a load of it.
So instead of calling these people rednecks, maybe you should look into the mirror and realize you're just a bunch of uneducated sheeple that does whatever the tv tells you to do and thinks whatever the tv tells you to think. Start thinking for yourselves.
I had no idea that Garafalo was leading the anti-tea party movement. Work is work, though.
I just love to hear everyone bash the conservatives in this country. Mahoning County will vote liberal for the next 100 years and will continue to be the slum of Ohio. Obama has really done a lot for us around here, huh? Unemployment was at 8% when he took over and before long, it will be close to 11%. What has he done for Youngstown or the Mahoning Valley? Zilch. Yet you can get on here and bash conservatives for getting together to protest increasing YOUR taxes. Hope4thevalley is probably unemployed anyway, so he doesn't care about tax increases that affect the rest of us. People who DON'T oppose tax hikes should not comment on this topic....ever!
T.E.A. Party
Taxed Enough Already is what it stands for, but some folks from this area think it is for other reasons!
Dump Congress, Not Tea!
steelman09.....Speaking about Obama you asked,"What has he done for Youngstown or the Mahoning Valley?"
He created a stimulus package that saved millions of jobs in the auto industry including thousands in the valley. That same stimulus package has so far invested at least 60 million in the valley. 25 million for Mahoning County schools, 9.3 million for valley transportation projects, 20 million for the relocation of Norfok Southern Railroad to make way for a 1 BILLION dollar V & M Star Steel expansion project, 250,000 for a food program for senior citizens. Those are a few things Obama has done for the valley in the 6 1/2 months he has been in office.
I hope that answered your question. Now I have a question for you. What did Bush do for Youngstown or the Mahoning valley in the 8 years he was in office?
Haha cambridge you just keep showing how ignorant you are.
"Stimulus" does absolutely nothing good for an economy. The only realy way to make an economy healthier is to cut taxes AND spending. Less money running through the government makes allocation of those same funds left to the private sector, last I checked individuals are better at spending their own money over the government.
Long term the stimulus will destroy the economy and provides little to no short term benefit. Stop listening to your socialist economist and listen to some free market economists, they are the one who saw this mess coming. We are following the same failing route FDR did when he kept the country in depression.
Its comical when they talk about a second stimulus, how stupid are they to realize we don't have any money and the stimulus doesn't do a thing.
Some day you'll wake up, but I guess ignorance is bliss. Its frustrating for people who know to see for years the leaders of this country drive it right into the ground democrat and republican.
What is bliss is watching right wingers go stark raving mad. Too bad your party didnt steal this election too because-buckle up boys-with 60 Senators--we are about to give you the ride of your life. You aint seen nothin yet!
That's what is wrong with our country today...a 2 party system. In either case, the party in power attempts to over-correct what the other party has screwed up and we get this "You ain't seen nothin' yet!" attitude.
This is not healthy policy for America. We need a strong third party to settle down these hyperventing politico's and get to work on running our country intelligently and for the long term.
This can only be accomplished through serious negotiations and compromising policy.
Our current 2 party system is failing us in that regard and I sense the public is becoming fed up with either party. The current system is clearly showing us the greed and failures of our leaders and we are not happy with it.
Our current leader is right...it is time for Change. We have 3 years to get this going people.......that's not much time.
Search4Answers.....I'm going to assume you voted for Bush TWICE. I'd say that pretty much disqualifies you from calling someone else ignorant.
Steelman asked what Obama did for the valley and I gave him a list. Are you against these funds coming to the valley and the jobs they will create? Why invest in schools, why rebuild infrastructure and repair roads and bridges, why would the area want a 1 billion dollar steel plant expansion? I forgot to list another 6 million for alternative energy projects in my previous post. I'm sure you are against the stimulus and these funds and jobs for the valley. Every Republican representative from Ohio voted against it so I'm sure you'd fall right in step.
