Ursuline’s Peterman commits to Syracuse

Published: Mon, January 26, 2009 @ 12:30 a.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — Dale Peterman (5-11, 170), senior wide receiver and defensive back for the Ursuline High football team, has committed to attend Syracuse University after visiting the school this weekend.

Peterman, who helped Ursuline to win the 2008 Division V state football championship and to go undefeated (15-0), selected Syracuse over Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, Akron, Bowling Green, Ohio, Western Michigan and Penn State, according to www.rivals.com.

He runs a 4.49 40-yard dash, has a vertical jump of 38 inches and bench presses 225 pounds, according to the Rivals Web site.

Peterman scored a key touchdown to help Irish defeat Findlay Liberty-Benton, 21-0, on Nov. 29 in Massillon for the first Div. V championship shutout in 23 years.

He scored the Irish’ second TD in the game with a 44-yard interception of quarterback Aaron Craft’s pass with 4:29 left in the game to help break open a close battle.

Peterman said of his interception after the game that he was able to read Craft’s eyes for signals.

“He was looking my way in the fourth quarter and, thank God, I was able to make that play on the hitch,” said Peterman.
