YOUNGSTOWN — The city’s three municipal court judges are ordering city council and Mayor Jay Williams to “provide suitable facilities for the operation” of the court “now.”
The judges filed a journal entry Monday ordering the new court facility be at least 34,000 square feet.
City administrators say they’d like to accommodate then but there isn’t enough money for a new court facility. The city is facing a projected $3 million general fund deficit this year.

How about Youngstown residents order city council and Mayor Jay Williams to "provide suitable municipal court judges" "now" instead?
Are these jokers crazy? Do they not know what economic problems this area, let alone the city, is facing? And just what is so unsuitable about the current facilities that can't be repaired at less cost than building a new courthouse?
What a bunch of idiots. Suck it up like the rest of us, your honors.
The Municipal Court is just a revolving door for a few hundred repeat offenders. Close the Municipal Courts and just hold Court in the repeat offender's jail cells. Who is going to build this jail, the indefinitely laid-off Lordstown Workers? And who is going to pay for it, the "Marc Dann for Ohio Attorney General Political Campaign Fund"?
Typical whack job Youngstown Lawyers preying upon the good people being held hostage by ego maniac judges that feel they have succeded in life because they've scammed their way into a judgeship.
Amazing really that two bit Youngstown judges think they have this kind of power to dictate that their courthouses are too small. Time to unelect these morons.
Look, City Hall is an absolute wreck and an embarrassment to the City and her people, but is this what the City ought to be spending it's money on right now? A capital project that produces no revenue? Public service is a special kind of duty. You take the good with the bad and you grin and bear it for the sake of those whom you serve. If these judges were truly dedicated to serving the public interest they'd hold court in the basement of the YMCA if that is what it took to administer justice. Futher, wasn't Muni Court found in a study last Spring to be grossly overstaffed and grossly inefficient compared to other municipal courts in Ohio?? When will these Youngstown elected officials get it? If it is really that big of a deal to them, then let the judges slap some paint on the walls themselves next Saturday, buy a space heater or two, and redouble their efforts at cutting budgets and maintaining an efficient docket. The power is with the people of the City. Exercise it at the ballot box, please.
