Woman robbed of purse while waiting with flat tire

Published: Tue, January 13, 2009 @ 3:22 p.m.

YOUNGSTOWN — A woman who pulled off Mahoning Avenue with a flat tire was robbed of her purse as she sat waiting for her son to arrive and fix the tire, police said.

The 40-year-old North Dunlap Avenue woman told police she had pulled into the parking lot of a tire shop near West Avenue around 10:20 p.m. Monday when a man approached and she lowered her window to speak to him. He told her the tire store was closed and then stuck a large bladed knife through the crack in the window and demanded money, reports show.

The scared woman thought about getting out the passenger side but when he ran to that side she threw her purse to him. The man fled on foot and then got into a red older model car. The woman’s son arrived shortly after the robbery and pursued the man north on West Avenue but lost sight of the car in Mill Creek Park. The purse contained new makeup, cash and credit cards.

Youngstown's culture seem to still be thriving in 2009. Well at least the thief will keep the underground economy going at the expense of others.

...and to think it happened "on Jay Williams Watch". Hopefully, next time something like this occurs, the person they try to rob will have a conceal-carry license and shoot the thug in his face.

Slow your roll crack heads. I'd seriously consider pulling a trigger on someone if that bs happened to me.

FYI....belan03...the conceal-carry laws were upgraded last year, and if the situation actually occurred as the woman stated it did she would have been considered in serious danger of her life and not a vigilante, therefore if she pulled her concealed weapon and shot the "felonious assaulter" she'd probably receive a medal of commendation from Youngstown's Finest.

but didn't ol' JEDD claim with his inflated, fake-ass stats that crime WAS down in 08? well, to him, that was crime that was reported. why get all giddy and slap hi-fives to each other when crime period WAS not down and still isn't?

what has thugstown become here? dodge city? beirut would be much safer than this city. with these nazi storm trooper, fascist cops that'll i spy on the decent folk, while these thugs have civil rights and we don't?

i for one feel sorry for this lady, but if we turn into vigilantes, we're wrong for standing up for justice when the law won't?

ccw isn't vigilantism. it's called self defense and these morons need to understand that many people are armed now. in my case i carry a better weapon, with more rounds then the average damn crack head might. plus it's clean and goes "bang" every time.

YPD could slow crime to a standstill In Youngstown but it would be politically incorrect. City hall would not stand for it. In 2007 the Ohio Highway Patrol had to do a sweep in town because things were getting out of control. The thugs have families and that equals political clout for them. Drugs and crime are a big segment of Youngstown's economy. OHP didn't give a crap.

No need for the police as the thief didn,t get hurt. If she would have shot the thief then they would have showed up and arrested her.
