Man pleads guilty to killing his 15-month-old nephew

Published: Mon, January 12, 2009 @ 4:54 p.m.

LISBON — An East Palestine man faces up to nine years in prison for the beating death of his 15-month-old nephew.

Joshua M. Courtney, 22, pleaded guilty today in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to felony charges of involuntary manslaughter and endangering children.

Police accused him of causing serious harm to and causing the death of Landon Courtney on Dec. 16, 2007, in East Palestine.

Tim McNicol, the assistant county prosecutor who handles child abuse cases, said the victim was Courtney’s nephew.

McNicol said the child had injuries consistent with being shaken violently and blunt force trauma to the head. McNicol said the child’s head had been struck many times.

Where do I begin my outrage on this story?
15 Months Old..............
Beaten to death?
Blunt force trauma?
Struck in the head many times?

Oh please Mr. McNicol put me on the jury.......and give me the switch for "Old Sparky" while you're at it.

"the child’s head had been struck many times."

In this abortion plagued society he only would get nine years for killing a fifteen month old child? This is not enough! Lets look into more charges and allow him to at least die in prison!

How can this abuse be taken so lightly by the courts? If someone shakes, and beats a young child in the head even one time, let alone many times, it's not "involuntary" behavior!!! My God, what was his excuse - and why on earth didn't anyone hear this poor baby screaming and call the cops??

This poor excuse for a man had better thank the Lord that the police got to him before someone else did.

This one needs to fry!!!

9 years is pretty short for murder. I could do 9 years with out missing a beat.
