Infocision leaves Youngstown for the suburbs

Published: Wed, February 11, 2009 @ 10:34 a.m.

Infocision Management Corp. is moving its workers in downtown Youngstown to its call centers in Austintown and Boardman.

About 165 workers who had been at 20 Federal Place will choose which of the suburban locations they prefer, said Gretchen Fri, manager of public relations for the Akron-based company. She said the move will help the company operate more efficiently because it has enlarged both suburban locations.

David Bozanich, city finance director, said he is confident the space in 20 Federal Place will be filled by other tenants. The city owns the building.

if you average all those workers at 10 bucks and hour, for 40 hrs a week, for 52 weeks, thats a pretty big number.....2.5 percent of that should be around $85000 per year right?

what kind of tax incentatives or any incentatives that infocision received from the city? Maybe bozanich can strike up a deal with grenga machinery to move his operations to federal plaza. grenga machinery is the only business that wants to remain in the city. why not offer this machine shop a business tax incentative to move to the federal plaza?

Also, this will really hurt the downtown bussiness. Could you imagine having a resturant seving lunch?

Not if they live in Youngstown... if they don't have it withheld, they'll owe a pretty penny at the end of the year.

That's OK Grump - soon as the JEDD's done we'll be getting it back anyhow.

I thought Youngstown's tax was 2.75%

Yeah but do you really want a lot of those people moving out of Youngstown? It's bad enough they've got the WRTA to bring them to the suburbs... now their jobs will, too. :(

Wow...must be the end of tax incentive monies...It's a shame that Y-Town Mayor couldn't make it worth Infocision's wild to reamin in downtown. Shame.

Babs, The mayor of y-town is in panic mode and cant keep his mind on one thing long enough to get anything done. This won't be the last company that vacates y town. Maybe if Ohio got a three strikes law for criminals, then Youngstown could prosper in the future, but with the current court and incarceration system acting as a revolving door, cities like youngstown will get nowhere. These career crooks need to be put away for 20 year stints with no parole. Jails will fill, creating jobs for all of the vets that will soon be home from our wonderful oil war. This sounds like a plan for me....how about you?

The city needs to take a hard look at incentives to draw people and business IN to the city and not drive them out.
2.75% is a huge tax for the city. The mayor needs to look at rolling back the tax to atract more revenue.

Simple ECON101....

Oh, and boardman;
Our wonderfull Governor wants to CLOSE prisons if the prison population continues to rise (yeah, figure out THAT logic) so your plan won't work. A simple twist to it may however; wall off the east side and put the criminals there - nobody wants to live over there anyway-and then we can employ the vets to guard the wall like you said.

Who wants those jobs anyway? They are always hiring because they are always firing - if people don't make their quotas - they are out of there. Of course the company moved out of Youngstown - businesses and people who don't live in the city are the ones paying the 2.75% tax.

Maybe mayor Williams can threaten Infocision with a water boycott in Austintown to prevent them from moving.

Maybe so baboo, and maybe this move by infocision will spark Mayor Williams to take more trips to Washington on our dime to get absolutely nothing for the valley like he did last week. This man is a punchline, and should be thrown out of office and replaced with a monkey. FREE BANANAS FOR ALL!

the wrta busline does not go to the infocision headquarters either place. does that mean more unemployment for the mahoning valley?

Terrance, given the high turnover rate of infocision employees, I don't think it would make any difference whatsoever. They probably ran out of people to hire in youngstown, so they are simply moving on. And with the economy being so dim and layoffs everywhere else being so high, I'm sure they will find plenty of fresh new employees to beat into submission with quotas and unattainable sales goals. What you have to understand is that telemarketing companies are ruthless and will cut whatever corners they need to to make a profit. If you thought the telemarketer that interrupted your dinner was bad, you should work there for a day and take a look at one of their supervisors. These are companies that get results, set higher standards, cut through employees like a knife through hot butter, and when they have used the population of an area, they move to another town. Ruthless business tactics that just happen to take advantage of the uneducated who simply must take the jobs. A shame really..... Talk to anyone who has ever worked there....I've interviewed plenty....
