Poll results: Obama yes, stimulus plan no

Published: Fri, February 6, 2009 @ 2:02 p.m.

COLUMBUS — Ohioans remain enamored with President Barack Obama, though more than half don’t think his stimulus plan will help their households.

That’s according to a poll released today by the Connecticut-based Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, which regularly gauges Ohioans’ opinions of candidates and issues.

The stimulus package does very little to sustain long term job growth. Since most Americans have no idea what is in the bill (and I doubt quite a few congressmen do as well) the link below shows just some of the spending they have proposed.

A TRUE bipartisan stimulus bill President Obama is opposing views meeting in the middle and not one side caving in and foregoing their principles.

Why not take this to the house floor for a vote?

The House passed the bill earlier this week; it is currently before the Senate. At first I thought you might not know the facts...wait.

The link to Rush Limbaugh article is cute too. He embodies partisanship (if in saying "bipartisanship" you mean "prone to wild and most often unproven allegations, gluttony and drug abuse"). Thanks for ruining the Wall Street Journal for me, scrooge.

Remember Scrooge, none of this stimulus package has to actually do anything to spur the economy. Any failure will automatically be blamed on the GOP, GB in particular well into the middle of the 21st. century or beyond.

Why don't they just give about ten grand or so to each deserving individual (we'll be generous and say that means those who pay income taxes)? That will be a real sure-fire way to stimulate the economy. A couple hundred bucks is chump change. It's not going to go far, especially not if people are just going to use it to pay on a couple of small bills they have (which by the way, in most cases, is money that has technically already been spent).

Just sayin'.

Aeparish, the problem with your solution (which I agree with) is that most of the voters that did not pay taxes are members of the electorate that voted for the winner in the last election. They must be rewarded and reminded that there is more to come. Of course I think you already knew that, you were just trying not to rile up the sheeples!

Unfortunately, you're right.

So my next frustration -- I think that people who are contributing members of society (those who pay income taxes) should be able to vote. I mean that might sound harsh, but all of these bums that are sitting at home unemployed (not because they lost their jobs, but because they chose that lifestyle) have voted for this man. And when this country comes crumbling down, I don't want to hear it from anyone that voted for this man.

If none of you feel that this is the proper stimulus package then, write to your state representatives to reframe from taking any stimulus package monies. Let's see how big the pot holes really can get in Y-town. You guys are a bunch of idiots......If you all feel that the gov't shouldn't do nothing, you all should prepare to buy more guns because crime will go up. And I hope you're the first to get robbed, and even if you do managed to kill the attempted person you will still have to go through the judicial system to try and prove your innocents. Which might land you in jail or the unemployement line.

I disagree, Lloyd. You're labeling the wrong people as idiots.

You do have a point about crime, because unfortunately, there are so many greedy people in this country. There is enough crime as it is and of course that will increase as things become more difficult. However, you, like many others, seem to think that this stimulus is going to improve things. You don't seem to realize that the money has to come from somewhere. The government is just digging itself deeper into a hole that it will eventually be unable to climb itself out of unless something legitimate is done to stop it. The stimulus plan, just like the bank bailouts, is layered with so much pork that it's not even funny. Look at how well that bank bailout worked -- the banks got their money, and now they're laying people off and destroying peoples' credit as a way to thank the tax payers who have helped them stay afloat.

So, you can keep on thinking that Obama is going to fix everything and that this stimulus plan is the greatest gift ever bestowed upon this country, but in the mean time, I would suggest that you start saving that extra $13 a week. You might need it to buy that gun that will protect you from crime when the stimulus fails the country.

All you freeloaders who think Hussein will save you, what a laugh. He's worse than a Socialist, he's worse than I ever could have dreamed. Hopefully he will be impeached before July 4th.

When does the $13 a week start? I will have to start planning my big purchases and dream vacation.

Lloyd - You have the freedom to call people a bunch of idiots but your disdain for the English language and the lack of proper spelling proves to me that you are probably one of the idiots who has his hand out waiting for his part of somebody else's change. I have listened for too many years to the Democrats screaming about the future of our children and how will they ever be able to pay back all the money that the Republicans gave to everybody through tax cuts and other incentives. Can you please tell me where all their rancor has gone about the future of this nations children with the amount of debt they just bestowed upon them? Can you actually prove to me that one Democrat who voted for this social, pork laden program, government give away actually even read the bill? It is absolutely impossible to think that even a speed reader with a clear mind and total comprehension could not have absorbed the amount of BS in this bill. As for the crime in Youngstown the best thing they can do there is declare open season and get rid of all the trash and to hell with their civil liberties because in order to have that you must first be civil(ized).
