YOUNGSTOWN — Moscow Ballet has added a gold medalist ballerina and several new characters to its “Great Russian Nutcracker,” which will return to Powers Auditorium on Friday.

Cristina Terentieva dances the role of Masha. She won the gold medal at the prestigious Varna International Ballet Competition in 2008. Cristina is partnered with Alexei Terentiev as the Nutcracker Prince.

Vladimir Troschenko, an honors graduate of the Bolshoi and Kirov academies, is the director.

New this year is a fantasy clock with wings of an owl that cast a shadow over the battle between the Soldiers and the Mice.

In addition to classical ballet dancing, the Moscow Ballet’s version of the holiday favorite is also known for its beautiful handcrafted backdrops and life-sized puppets.
