Published: Fri, December 4, 2009 @ 1:23 p.m.

The Cardinal Mooney Cardinals are state champions!

The Cardinals defeated the Columbus Desales Stallions 35-7 at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium in Massillon for the Division III state title.

Seven state titles puts the Cardinals third all-time in Ohio, behind Cleveland St. Ignatius (10) and Newark Catholic (8).

Congratulations on an incredible season! To be undeafeated with such a difficult schedule ranks this Cardinal Mooney team as arguably the best in school history.

Congratulations to Coach Fecko and the entire team on a magical season.

I live in Struthers and work in Chagrin Falls. I listen to WKBN and WTAM radio on my way to and from work each day. Earlier this week, WTAM had an analyst on the Mike Trivisonno show talking about the Ohio high school championship games this week. When the analyst talked about Cardinal Mooney's game against Columbus DeSales, he said that Mooney could possibly be the best team in Ohio! Mike Trivisonno laughed off the comment by talking about Glenville beating St. Ignatius. The analyst said, that Mooney and Glenville would be a great game and that he wouldn't bet against Mooney.

Other than me, who else would like to see Mooney play one more game against the winner of the division 1 game - Cleveland Glenville v. Hilliard Davidson?

I have seen St. Ignatius play, Glenville play, and Mooney play. I have also seen Cincinnati Elder, Moeller, and St. Xavier play. Mooney would beat them all. St. X would be their best competition, but Mooney would win. Hands down!

I agree. Mooney, in my opinion, is unquestionably the premiere team in Ohio. That had to be the most treacherous schedule a D III program has ever played. I'm truly honored to be a Cardinal.

Best of Luck to the Irish!

Way to go, Cards! Thanks to Coach Fecko and staff, along with all determined young men, who have given us a dream season! What a run these last six years have been for us "Cardinals"!

So proud to be a Mooney Alum!

This is one of those times that you wish there were no divisions. As several of you have said, I would put this Mooney team up against any team in Ohio. When you can run the ball and control the line of scrimmage from both sides like this, no team is gonna stop you.
