YOUNGSTOWN — A South Side man saved his granddaughter from potential harm by confronting an armed intruder in the family home.
According to police, a 12-year-old Breaden Street girl was visiting her grandfather’s home on the same street just before midnight Monday.
The child went outside the house to walk the dog and was accosted and forced back inside the home by an armed man with an afro hairstyle wearing all-black clothing.
The armed man forced the child into the living room of the home and ordered her to sit down, but the girl screamed for her 60-year-old grandfather.
The grandfather told police he entered the living room after he heard the girl’s screams, and the armed man pointed the handgun in his direction, demanding that he leave the room or be shot.
The grandfather told police he refused to leave the room and did not move out of the gunman’s line of fire.
He instead told the man to let his granddaughter go and take whatever he wanted from the house.
Reports say the armed intruder began screaming at the older man to get out of the room.
The grandfather moved toward the gunman and slapped the hand holding the gun, causing the intruder to fire a bullet into a nearby wall.
Police said the grandfather tried to rush the gunman while the gun was no longer pointed in his direction, but the intruder ran out of the house.
The grandfather told police the man was joined by two other men outside as he ran away. The two other men are believed to have been lookouts for the intruder.
Police are still looking for all three men. The two men who stayed outside also were dressed in black, but one also was wearing a black-and-white bandanna, and the other had on an orange shirt.

Them thugs had a lot of nerves invading someone's home. That girl had no business going outside @ midnight at all, let alone to walk a dog, I'm quite sure she's old enough to understand how bad the crime is in the city and knew better. I'm glad everyone is fine.
Give Grandpa a gin and a concealed carry permit. Next time he can shoot the perp dead.
I think he needs a gun and a bigger dog.
Seriously, that is just horrible. Thankfully he was there - I hope they find the POS involved, although I'm sure he will be found by someone sooner or later.
Get your ccw permit, folks, and let street justice be served. Meet violence with violence, and maybe then the thugs will start getting the message.
Way to go, grandpa! But, it could have easily went the other way. They were lucky.
Keep a weapon,(handgun) handy at all times when in your house....no permit required.
No need to charge the grandfather with assault as the thug wasn't hurt and left on his own . The culture views this as a social call .
If they do find the thugs they will simply be put on probation . To shoot the thugs is politically incorrect . The next home that they invade may result in serious injury or death to the occupants . Crime in Youngstown is out of control .
Jay says that is is simply a matter of toleration and he has a plan.

what culture is that stan?

"what culture is that stan?"
Liberal social culture of the times . Do you find my criticism of it offensive ? My appologies ! I am going for a degree in sensitivity 101 . Do you feel that society is being too harsh in condemning these poor misunderstood fellows ?

Who in the hell lets a twelve year old kid go outside after Midnight to walk a Dog !!!
Check out the Castle Docterine... Problem solved!
Castle Doctrine = political incorectness .
The liberals are evaluating the valuable contributions that they feel criminals are not being given credit for .
I'm sorry that I'm not as big a fan of gunplay as you are Stan.
BOTTOM LINE: The grandfather was only sixty, what the HELL was he thinking letting that little girl outsde that time of night without being watched. The older you get , the wiser. That is not true
