Youngstown’s mayor to campaign against casino ballot issue

Published: Tue, August 25, 2009 @ 7:35 p.m.

COLUMBUS — Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams will be one of several co-chairmen to take across the state the message of a group opposed to a constitutional amendment that would allow casinos at specific sites in four Ohio cities.

Backers of the ballot issue, meanwhile, unveiled a new Web site, aimed at combating what they call false and misleading information about their casino plan.

The two sides are duking it out in a campaign that likely will cost tens of millions of dollars as they try to persuade voters.

TruthPAC, a coalition of groups opposed to the ballot issue, appointed eight co-chairmen today for its statewide campaign against the casino plan. If voters approve the plan, casinos would be placed in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Toledo.

The group includes individuals who oppose gambling and is receiving contributions from the owners of the Mountaineer casino in West Virginia.

Community and elected leaders involved in the campaign include Williams; state Rep. Louis Blessing, a Republican from the Cincinnati area; state Sen. Teresa Fedor, a Democrat from Toledo; the Rev. E.T. Caviness, from the Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church in Cleveland; and Parma Mayor Dean DePiero.

The Mayor represents the residents of The City of Youngstown, the Youngstown City Schools rate a "2"; the lowest in the State, and his Honor comes out against casino gambling. So, if the parents of the majority of kids in the city schools don't give their chldren "quality time" to discuss the seriousness of getting at least a HS diploma, and jobs are scarce as it is, the highest ranking political office in the City comes out against anything thats going to at least generate some sort of employment for the kids that make-up the "2" on the statewide distrct scoresheet. UGH!!!!!

Did anyone else notice this, "The group includes individuals who oppose gambling and is receiving contributions from the owners of the Mountaineer casino in West Virginia." Of course Mountaineer owners would be against it, they would hate to see all of the money from Ohio staying in Ohio!! Jay Williams, you are an idiot along with all the others that are on Mountaineers bandwagon to stop Ohio money staying in Ohio!! And to all those supposedly against gambling but taking money from a casino to fight Ohio casinos, move to another state no one wants you here cause obviously you are hypocritical fools!!

Would the mayor be against it if there was a plan to put a casino in Youngstown?

Gunfire can be heard throughout a city that averages one murder per 1,500 residents (odds on being murdered in the City of Youngstown is 1500 to 1) and the Mayor is worried about a Casino Gambling Issue, Hagan is worried about you Text Messaging while driving, and Ryan is worried about funding Abortions, all this while people on the East Side pull bullets out of their house siding and a person leaving a Veterinarian Clinic on the South Side gets their car shot up! And the parents of these kids are out boozing it up, in jail, getting their hair done, getting their nails done, buying Instant Lotto Tickets, all while they carry their OHIOPass Card into the local grocery store and fill up the buggy and the victims drop by the nearby Hospital to get lead pulled out of their body from ginshot wounds, while the local hospitals call you up everyday asking you to pay your Past Due amount of $35.00.
